Hey everyone! I was wondering: I just ordered a 24 inch iMac (2.8 ghz processor, 4 gigs ram, 1 TB hard drive)---is there anything USB based that could take a HDMI video signal and put it on the screen? I want to hook my PS3 up to my iMac so I can use it as a HD display. I have tried searching for things but, honestly, I have no clue what to search for beyond 'HDMI to USB converter'--which brings up sites that sell HDMI cables and USB cables, but nothing that bridges the two. Can anyone give me a better idea what to look for? ------------------ |

Thanks! Man--the stuff I found with that is like 2 thousand bucks or just shy of that---is that standard for that stuff? I just want a USB to HDMI thing I don't necessarily need all the features those things pack hehe---I have a friend who does tech stuff a lot as well (he builds PCs as a business) I am going to call him and see if he has anything tonight. ------------------ |

The problem is they are not just different plugs.. they are entirely different interfaces. HDMI is digital video, USB is just generic data. I think your friend will still say a capture device(video to data) is the way to go. God Bless! ------------------ |

To be honest, you will have easier luck getting HDMI working on an Apple Cinema Display than the iMac screen, which is hard wired to the computer. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. Cool thanks everyone! I knew a just a converter perse wouldn't work---but I thought that maybe there was a smaller item for more people like me who just want to convert the video and not edit/record it---at least I know the terminology now hehehe!! Thanks again---I will see if there is a capture thing closer to my price range---if I work something out you guys will know hehe! ------------------ |
