I have the trial - haven't used it yet.

Here's the thing...
on the Game Creator forums, I haven't read much negative stuff about the thing itself.

Everywhere else, the reviewers and the users say it is terrible.(For a multitude of reasons)

I watched a couple youtube videos of the DX10 version in action - wasn't impressed at all.

it's more of a toy than a development engine.
I messed around a little and was fun, but not serious.

go ahead and give the trial a go. just mess around. I wouldn't spend 50 bucks on it. 30.. maybe.

I tried the trial for a while, seemed like a nice toy. You could create games pretty easy, but there is a lot of gore and blood.

Give it a try.

As someone who professionally has every interest in telling you to not try it, I suggest trying it. I personally am not fond of it though it never hurts to expand your experience. Too many people these days make claims to engines they never have tried.

Personally, I like it. It reminds me of the old Quake 1 map editors. I bought the full version a little while back (at least a year or more) and I have used it to play with little ideas. I made a multiplayer FPS of my old job (while I was still working there). It's probably good management never found out...hee hee

I've used it before. I think it has potential to be useful, but it requires alot of workarounds and hacking to make something truly unique. As far as a tool for actual serious game design, I think you'd learn more by actually going for a game of your own from the ground up, but it can be a useful, fun, and easy tool. As for the blood and gore Kenman mentioned, that can be deactivated by changing the scripts if you have the full version. I'd suggest giving it a try, but if you really want to grow in game design this might not be your best option for learning, though it is easier, and a whole lot of fun to boot.
