Okay, so I've been having problems getting animations out of Blender and into my semi-Irrlicht-based game engine. I've tried exporting as .X, .3DS, .OBJ, all to no avail. I think it's either the model itself or the exporter, since even Microsoft's own .X viewer doesn't show up any animations, but obviously I can't use that as a means of testing non-.X exports like 3DS. The model can be found here: http://www.geero.net/Butterfly.blend I'll confess it's been a while, so I can't really remember how to use Blender or how I made it! I think it's an armature modifier on the mesh, which I understand is the "modern" way of animating in Blender (rather than just parenting the armature to the mesh). I'd appreciate any help in either fixing the model or finding a decent exporter. Thanks a lot, ------------------ |

Hey there, sounds interesting... I used to work with Irrlicht a little... it seems like I got something working out of it befoe... I'll take a look at it once I get home! Also, have you tried Blender's MDL exporter? ------------------ |

Weird... I had the same problem... When using the MeshViewer for Irrlicht version 1.1 it shows me nothing after loading the .x file from blender.. when I try to load a .obj file it crashes O.o ------------------ |

I deleted the two objects in the bottom of the object list in blender's outliner view and after that it didnt crash anymore when I loaded the exported X file. But still couldnt see the mesh, maybe because the texture wasnt found. Sorry, this probably doesnt help much. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

Whenever I'm having exporter woes, one thing that helps me is to try exporting the standard Blender cube and getting that to load on the other side before trying to do it with a more complex model. There are any number of things that could be hurting your export, whether it is inverted faces, holes in the mesh (if one is exporting to a bsp-like-format), or sometimes just random quirks like what Jari seems to have found. Can you export a standard cube out of Blender okay? --clint |

quote: I've got a fairly complex "field" scene loading in fine, and indeed if I use the Microsoft .X loader then I can load this file in *without animation*; but getting the animations is pretty crucial, and also it won't load in Irrlicht. ------------------ |
