i actually figured out shaders and i got a decent set of shaders up and running . but now i'm getting these black shapes on the model. the textures and normal maps don't have anything wrong with them. the black shapes aren't holes, i tried changing the clear colour and they stay black, so i have no idea what is going on here.

i posted a pic on my albumtown page:

go to the "rendering" album. theres some cell shaded teapots and a cool effect i made by accident

aHA!! i solved all my problems
i figured it out and it was a tangent issue. My boss gave me a few shader examples to work with and he wasn't calculating the tangent properly (and blamed rendermonkey for it) so that created some weird black shapes on the texture. ANYWAYS, i actually managed to put my GLSL scripts into Ogre3D and they look pretty nifty The artists did a good job with the model and now it's all shiney and pro.
