This is a call that goes out to all of you big guys with full fledged games being developed right now for the Windows platform (Xcrucifix, Rebel Planet Creations and others).

Today I learned of a new tecnology developed by TransGaming Inc. (the guys who developed Cedega). Its called "Cider" and prety much packages up your PC game inside of a wraper that lets it be played nativly on Intel Macs. Below I have posted a snipet from there web site:

Quoted off Cider page over at: http://www.transgaming.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&file=index&func=display&ceid=24

quote:
Cider is a sophisticated portability engine that allows Windows games to be run on Intel Macs without any modifications to the original game source code. Cider works by directly loading a Windows program into memory on an Intel-Mac and linking it to an optimized version of the Win32 APIs. Games are simply wrapped up in the Cider engine and they work on the Mac. This means developers only have one code base to maintain while keeping the ability to target multiple platforms. Cider powered games use the same copy protection, lobbies, game matching and connectivity as the original. All this means less work and lower costs. Cider is targeted at game developers and publishers and, unlike Cedega, is not an end user product.

I think this would be a great way for you guys to get your games on the Mac platform. I know that I personaly would love to play many of them, and do it on my Mac. This is new tecnology and it might not be as great as they pump it up to be. Who knows what kind of overhead it needs, but I do know that the intel macs are verry powerful and I'm sure that even if the overhead is 10 or 15% your games would still run fast. At least take a look at it, contact them to see how they do lisensing. Maybe you they will let you try it out, who knows. I can promis you that if this is all its pummped up to be that it is worth your bother. Jeff

Intel Mac gamers can play our games, on a dual boot to XP just kidding

My favorite part was:

That's the main selling feature and for a good reason. Thanks for the link!

That's pretty sweet! I've posted a thread on 3DGS forums inquiring as to whether it is compatible with 3DGS, hopefully we can find out soon. Thanks Jeff

An interview about Cider was just posted here

Also david it shouldn't matter what engine you are using, cider takes windows API's and changes them to Mac API's on the fly. Hope this works out for you guys, now I need to keep saving up for my next computer upgrade. Jeff

I have no idea what that means :P I read the website and it's like it's another language, I have no idea what it's talking about or how to implement it. How would you integrate it into a game? Could you link it to a game without making any additions, plugins or changes to the game code itself?
