Well if you spent as long as you said you would on it, its probabaly to long. Try splitting it in half Dr Nick. ------------------ |

lol, I tried and got the problem again... "Service Temporarily Unavailable I'll try something smaller...
Well ok, seems that this might be a good topic to do. A C++ tutorial, starting from scratch, working from the basics of C++ through to possibly 3D game programming. As questions anytime. This tutorial might progress slowly, but i wanna be teaching C++ concepts pretty fast. I'll also provide weblinks for anything you'll need or other tutorials that'll help or explain more. I'm going to do this tutorial for Windows, i'm using winXP. Another point to note, I'm just going to be posting this stuff onto the forums, anyone can reply to find out more, or if they have a problem, also if there is anything wrong with the code/post please let me know as most of this will be done between 9pm and 4am :P Ok, well you'll first need a Compiler. I have Visual Studio .Net 2005. Unfortunately most people won't wanna fork out some cash for a compiler. Well now theres one called Dev-C++. Its a free IDE with the Mingw compiler. I'll work with dev-c++ for this tutorial, however I'm going to have to change to Visual Studio later. You should be able to get an academic version for a rather cheap price. Although maybe i might convert some of the examples to dev-c++. http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dev-cpp/devcpp-4.9.9.2_setup.exe download, install. Now i like to have a directory whenever i do programming just for my programming solutions/projects. mine is "C:\Jon's\Programming\My Stuff\" i would recommend a shorter directory :P plus no spaces, some compilers/IDEs have fits over spaces in directories. (Not good ole VS.NET :P) More to follow... ------------------ Startup Christian Games Company Producing Mobile/PC Games/Tools |

Hey, I'm putting together a website, it'll have the tutorials, but it'll take me a bit to get it working right. I'll upload the tutorials as i go and then supply the links in here until the website is up. I'm just modifying a couple of problems that were spotted by Pablo. I should have it uploaded soon, and then i'll supply the link. I'd just like to thank Goop2 and Pablo for their help. Having someone check over the tutorial first before releasing it helps as it's soo easy to forget things (especially at like 2 am :P). ------------------ Startup Christian Games Company Producing Mobile/PC Games/Tools |

you could just create your own free website and then post them up, I'd be interested in seeing them and it seems that a lot of people here use it. it is a pretty good free one, 100Mb, 1Gb brandwidth, popups and text ads though. ------------------ Startup Christian Games Company Producing Mobile/PC Games/Tools |

Hey Dartsman, I've got my own domain with webhosting that I pay for. I'm not using most of the space or bandwidth right now. I'd love to host your tutorials. Same for you, Buddboy. My domain is http://steveth45.net/ . I could put tutorials in a separate folder like http://steveth45.net/tutorials/ or something like that. Just email them to me here: stevegoss(at)steveth45.net . Just replace the (at) with @ . Zip it up and attach it to the email and I'll post it. I'll even post a link on my page/blog which gets about 3 hits a month. I'm a C++ fanatic, so I'd like to check out your tutorial myself. ------------------ |

Thanks for the offer, but at this moment because the tutorials are only just being done (2 done so far) I'm going to offer them only to people who ask to be added to an email list. Although this might limit the number of people who get to read them, I'll be looking to post them to gamedev.net hopefully in the not too distant future (once I get a fair bit done with them). I'm trying to get them done, but at the same time, working on game concept (at the same time re-working my 2d engine) and looking for a job (programmer). Thanks again, and good luck with the workshop. I'm going to start planning to go next year to the conference. ------------------ Startup Christian Games Company Producing Mobile/PC Games/Tools |
