I just dug some QBASIC code out the other day for a maze generator. It was a nice trip down memory lane.

Sometime during the last century I was asked to look at a Foxpro program that was breaking. The original program was in Foxbase, ran overnight on an 8088, and was considered a great success. The change to Foxpro brought the time down to 4 hours. But now the program was crashing, and the original programmer was unavailable. Not knowing any Foxpro, and not wishing to learn it, I re-engineered the thing in QuickBASIC, which if I'm not mistaken, is a QBasic that compiles executables. It ran in under a minute. On today's machines it completes much faster than my Java programs load.

go for it..
c64 coding was da bomb, with the 6502 4not having a multiplication intruction, it was definately barebones.. but what an amazing machine. I wish commodore could have survived, it would be amazing what their current machine would be like.

but finally the whole purpose of technological advance has been reached.

you can get a commodore 64 emulator for pocket PC, so now you can have a pocket C64

I used to code C64 basic and used some interupt driven graphics machine code routines for extra speed, but I was recently given a C64 compiler which seems to work a treat!
BTW, the emulator FRODO is now available for PALM OS5, and it's ripper!

Also, Tulip, the owners of the Commodore license have announced they are releasing an all-in-one console (basically a joysick that plugs straight into the TV) which will include 30 famous C64 games built in. Mostly EPYX titles I believe.

KBasic looks nice

One of my fave BASICs remains MS BASIC on the CoCo2, but BASIC on the TI-99 4/A was awesome if you have the expansion BASIC cartridge that was blistering fast.

I found this on an old CD backup (originally downloaded from Planet Source Code). It is a QB 2 VB converter. I have no idea how well it works, but the sourece is there to mess with. I will probably remove this in a couple of days so if you want it snage it while its still on my server:
