Hello, I have a cool idea for a Bible Card game that uses unique cards to play. My questions are the following: 1) What would be best to program in (I have Delphi, but is that best)? More questions to come as I work on this. Thanks, ------------------ |

Oh yeah one other thing, 3) I want to have players click and drag a card out of their hand into play. What is the best way to do that? Because in Delphi, I have always had stationary graphics. I am thinking about doing the following, but not sure how to do it all. I would like to make a resource file with the following information in it.
Someone mentioned they thought all that could be wrapped into a DLL file that I could call as needed for everything. Only they didn't know how to do it and neither do I. Any suggestions? Love in Christ, ------------------ Jesterhawk _,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_ |

Hey Jesterhawk, how's the book going? Anyway, Archangel was right, this sort of project would be a piece of cake with gamemaker. You can store all your animations as .gif files, or you can import them as bitmaps and let gamemaker turn them into an animated file for you. It costs $15 to get the version that has network support, but you can still download version 5.0 for free which has network support and all the important features. The book is complete from the story point of view and comes in at 156000 words. It still needs a lot of editing mostly from a grammar point of view. So, I am working on that to make it better. I checked with a couple of agents and until it is better, they cordially decline to read it. That or until I am published already. So I thought while I am doing that, I could get a few other things done. It warms me to know that people remember what I am working on Love in Christ, ------------------ Jesterhawk _,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_ |

Well, hang in there. I know what it's like to edit a book, it takes more dedication than the actual writing. Plus, it's also hard to not make changes which change the context for other paragraphs and stuff. In any case, I look forward to seeing a Christian card game. Is it going to be like a battle type game? Or more of a traditional card game? I've never really played those battle type games, but I imagine a good vs evil theme would work well in a single player game, but maybe not so great for a group of Christians to play. |

There is a card game already out. It's called Redemption. You battle other people in an attempt to get lost souls. Their website is redemption.com. Have fun. Maybe you can get an idea or two. ------------------ |

Yes, I am aware of Redemption and Rob Anderson. He was helpful from a publishing point of view, but he had all the funding he needed. So, he is not a help from funding or creating a computer game point of view. Thanks anyway, Love in Christ, ------------------ Jesterhawk _,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_ |

Hey JH, Dan used java for his on-line version of Unity: I'd say do it on what will work and what you know the best. Has anyone played the Mission? Just got it - haven't read the rule book yet. Tim ------------------ |

Not sure if the original question still needs an answer. But there is a great 2D gaming language called DX Creator. It is now defunct and no longer online, but before the company went under they released version 1.81 as Freeware. It has networking commands built and has a really simple syntax and it compiles relatively small EXEs. And performance wise it was always on par with Blitz 2D. If interested, I can post this on my site so you can download it. (Clearly states freeware, no warez stuff, but AFAIK it is not available online anywhere anymore, but still a VERY good 2D product) |

Yes, I am interested in DX Creator!!!! As for the Mission. I have not found anyone I can convince to play near me so I haven't picked it up. However, I do know that Ezekiel has traded in the card game business for a career in movies. He had wanted me to purchase the game outright from him, but I didn't have the cash. As far as I know, it is still not purchased by anyone else and therefore dead. I would play it if there were people to play with near me. quote:Here ya go. This is history lol, the original version of DXC (1.7) actually predates all other game development langauges based on DX for the PC. It was out before Blitz, it was out before DB. Very powerful, easy to use and great for what you are looking for and has great docs. http://mysite.verizon.net/bricemanuel/DXC181free.zip Its a 5MB download. If it doesn't work at first, keep trying. Verizon can be a tad unreliable, but had to put it there since I have hotlinking disabled on my normal server. |

I appologise. Redemption also has a computer version of the card game out, too. I thought that you might get some ideas from it. In regards to the avitar, i am trying to find a place to host the image. It will be cool when it is up. ------------------ |

your site doesn't allow remote linking? aw, man. remote linking is the greatest thing. www.250free.com does allow remote linking. I use. it's pretty good. especially for being free. ------------------ |

linking to something on your site, like a picture, from somewhere else. some sites do not allow that. one server I use allows it, and that's where I have my avatars, piccs, etc on. another server I have does not, so I can't put a pic on it and show it here. ------------------ |

If you're still looking for a program to click and drag cards, send me an e-mail, I've got one that works well for my card games. |

Miami Brice: Are you still hosting the file? I'd kinda like to get my hands on that. The link is not working atm, but I'll try again a little later. Cheers, |

may I point out that victory of hebron is nothing like the real game of redemption, but it is still fun. ------------------ |

You could put card details in a database - then you can update with an expansion pack very easily. I think a resource file isn't a good plan because it locks the set of cards without releasing a new .exe. Maybe a custom data format - not that tricky. Maybe a '.crd' file can contain a number of cards, and the cgame scans the data folder for every .crd file at startup. As for languages, I'd use MFC/C++ since I'm most knowledgeable in that! Delphi sounds a good language for such a visual game though - can you compile to .exe though, I forget? |
