For those of you who have been published (in stores) or know something about it, I would like to ask, what are the good ways and options? How hard is it to get published, and what's an acceptable range of royalty? I've done shareware, but I'm interested in trying to get physically distributed in the future. I have kept an eye on Xtreme Games information for some time. They act as a middle man for bargain software titles. http://www.xgames3d.com/ Now they have a new site ( http://www.egamezone.net/ ) which is based on downloads but also lets them try to put your game in physical distributions. Their example for the physical sale is that you would get 11 cents for a game that wholesales for 5 dollars. Is that ridiculously low, or would the valume of sales likely be enough to add up to something? Is it acceptable for the first time to break into the market and get some publicity, or should we aim higher right from the start? If there are other good publishers to try, I'd like to find out! As for the type of publisher I would be approaching--what I'm working on right now is mostly educational games, and some games and software about social/political issues from Christian moral point of view. So mostly not overtly Christian elements for the main content right now. Also, the gameplay and technology is not in the level of heavy gamers, but on the other hand, I try to have better gameplay, and different innovative approach to content, than most educational games. Thanks, Curry |

Hi Curry, I've captured on this page what I believe are the options for a Christian game. If you find some other avenues, let me know and I'll update the page. I hope this helps. May the Lord guide, ------------------ |

No one is unattainable, target any publisher you like, aim high and go for it. You'll need a solid prototype of your project before you'll intrest anyone, royalities and percentage ranges also vary with different publishers. I couldn't really give you a "well most of the time they ask for 'this'", just try to wheel and deal the best you can. ------------------ |

11 cents per $5.00 is, if my calcs are correct, about 2%. Even for someone starting out, that seems terrible. Lets say you spent an optimistic 3 months full time on a piece of software, you'd have to sell more than 20,000 copies before it even came close to being a good return. |

who gives that?!? I'd almost rather go freeware. Then again, I always like freeware. edit-> Oh, wait that's eGameZone on physical sale. yikes. though I would like to see which sells better, online or physical. [This message has been edited by ArchAngel (edited May 14, 2003).] |

Thanks for the info, I will let you know what else I find. One good resource I saw that deals especially with shareware but also with all software publishing: http://www.dexterity.com/articles/ Curry |
