First I wonder if there is A5 developers here on the forum! Well, at least I am here! If you are please answear! Cause I wonder if there could be a group of A5 users that would start working on a common game project! I have one GREAT idea (I think), but programmers, animators... are required if there would ever be a game! Iīm into level building, sound effects, music, stories, ideas, panels, textures..... *** The Gamestudio includes some basic code in (C-script) that can be added to make simple games, but if one likes to make a REAL game, som knowledge in C-script is certainly needed. C-script isnīt EASY, but itīs easier than learning C++ ! The programs and the engine is constantly upgraded! At the moment the model editor doesnīt have BONES, so animation is painful. On the other hand other 3D modelling programs can be used to make models that are later saved in a format that A5 understands (*.mdl) The price of the engine is from 49$ (standard version), 199$ (commercial version) to 1250$ (professional version). Itīs one possibility to start with if youīre interested in game developement. The engine is quite good, but donīt expect to have a C&C Generals, GrandPrix 4, ready until Christmas!!! |

Hi Ran-Sun-San, I used A5 for my small demo that I presented at the Christian Game Developers Conference. I had bought a $99 Extra version. Seemed to be quite nice but I realized that I needed to work more on the rest of my concept the design document and game state machine, before I got into graphics and UI. I have heard from others with more experience than me that it could be frustrating at times. So, whud you have in mind? Love in Christ, |

I used A5 for a game project in school. I thought the engine would be our team's best bet for quickly making a good game, and it might have been if we had chosen a different game design. We were trying to make an RPG in the style of Final Fantasy (a very scaled-down Final Fantasy). However, we had to jump through hoops just to get it to do what we had intended. So I'm just saying, I hope you don't intend to make an RPG with it (not a complicated one anyways). It's much better suited for action games and possibly massively online games (if you get the server/professional version). I've seen some fairly impressive stuff done with it, but you really need to know the C-script language inside and out to get the best out of the engine. Also the C++ DLL plugin is a bit overhyped (if you planned on using any C++). However, if you ever want to use object-oriented C++ with the engine (even though it shouldn't be able to use it), just ask me. I came up with an interesting way of getting it to work! My suggestion would be to look through the PDF manual and read through all of the script functions as well as some of the sample code. Then design your game off of what you know you can do. I didn't have such a great experience with it, but I still think it's a good engine for a lot of people. The scripting language is one of the better ones out there, but it can still get pretty advanced quickly. Hope your experience with it goes well!

Hi there! Nice to see that someone knows tha A5 engine! Itīs not the best in the world, but good enough to make pretty good games. I would say that itīs capable of quite good games if the makers can CODE and build up a functioning game. The good thing is also that they update the engine, and stuff to it! Iīve been working on a 3rd person (RPG) action game that is placed in the medievel times. Our programmer is gone from the project, at least for now, but if he comes back the game developement with that project will continue. What we could do together depends on the knowledge etc that we have (quality of models, code...). What I have in mind is a game in the C&C style (Red Alert - and coming this year = Generals). But we would have a story of our own ofcourse! Iīm working on that one now. Waivio, at least Vaivio sounds real finnish, but it doesnīt mean anything special! unfortunetly! |

Yeah, I like the idea of writing AI's but I don't have any experience in doing such stuf. I will probably give it a shot using Neverwinter Nights. I would like to make a quick mod which would be easyer than writing a game from the ground up. All the UI is done for you. Most of the moddles. You just arange the pieces programe AI and story. You can freely distribute what you produce but you can't charge money unless you arrange something with Bioware. The mod I'm thinking of they would battle the evil Sarx Orexis. They have a good/evil/lawful/caiotic system built in so it should be easy to put together. I think W sounds very V like in Finnish. Cool. Love in Christ, |

Well, my idea is really to start from Ground Zero! Itīs harder work! But itīs more motivating, when the team can do "what they want"! I use - For music I have a KORG TRITON synth whatīs needed is a: - Digital mixer (which I try to buy next year). Hope to hear from you who are interested, and have some knowledge to shear! Iīll be back next week! |
