I've been looking at the Blitz3D demo (mostly because of the comments I've seen on this site about it and BlitzBasic), and I was wondering who has used it and what experience you have had with it - good or bad - with some explanation/advice. I like what I've seen so far (still going through the demo) but I'd like to get some "expert" comparisons on the user end of it in relation to other popular game engines like Torque, Quake-series, and others that are out there. Thanks alot gang ;D |

<feels summoned> Hiya, Yep, I've used Blitz3D a bit and it's very easy to use and quite powerful. I have spent the last year writing a book on the 2D version of Blitz Basic so I have very little experience with the 3D side of things. However, I have seen a number of really nice demos that showcase its power. http://www.blitzcoder.com and look at the showcase and/or check out http://www.blitzshowcase.com All the best! -Krylar ------------------ |

heheh yep, I almost repeated your name again but I was afraid I might get snatched into an alternate dimension or something. I'm just glad there aren't any mirrors around ![]() Thanks much K... I dare ask again if there is anyone out there - in this forum - who has used Blitz3D for a project? I really would like to get some "power user" opinions on it if possible. Thx again, //edit

quote: I'd guess not in these forums, but in the BlitzCoder ones there are.
quote: Correct. But of course the majority of what you'll be doing graphically will be 3D so that's a lot of difference. The standard command set (IF...THEN...ELSE...ENDIF, FOR...NEXT, etc.) will be identical.
quote: Well, there's always a learning curve, but I would bet that you'd be able to pickup the Blitz3D coding much more quickly than say C/C++ and Direct3D/openGL. Mostly because in 2 pages of code you can create a very limited flight simulator (it's in the sample directory of the Blitz3D product).
quote: Should be pretty low. Read the articles/tutorials on the BlitzCoder site about blitz to get a feel for it. It's really not that complicated, but it's pretty powerful. Now, if you're looking to recreate something with the power of Quake III then you're better off going the C route. But if you're not looking for quite that complexity and speed, you should be good to go with Blitz. -Krylar ------------------ |

I tried the demo just yesterday and I saw nothing but colored screens while running the demo apps. No errors reported or anything, just didn't show anything. A Directx 8 issue perhaps? The language looks really easy to use anyway... |
