I've been working on a simple 2D Terrain Generation demo. It's basically just a simplified Level Editor and has limited features at the moment.

Currently you just draw a white circle or box (you can change the size) and then when you click 'Generate Texture' it will replace the white with a Stone Texture (Thanks to Jeff McArthur for the awesome stone texture ).

I'm working on getting the grass/top layer to draw on the top parts of the stone texture, and then I'll get the dark/bottom layer to draw underneath the stone texture.

Also, I've goto work on optimizing the slow beast. Hopefully I can get it updating quick enough that you just draw that stone texture with grass and dark underneath sections in real time as you paint it with the mouse.

No demo but you can check out the screenshots and some info at:

That's a really cool idea. Are there other level builders that let you create assets (how did you come up with the idea)? Your website is interesting. Is HASH downloadable anywhere? It looks like the curriculum where you attend school includes assembly and PASCAL. ...didn't think they taught the old school stuff anymore. Have you made any other games?

@mastallama - thanks

@JeTSpice - thanks also

I'm sure there are other level builders similar to this. The idea was from a tutorial I found on the net about generating the 'Worms' look/feel for the terrain.

There isn't a download for HASH as I don't really want people to leech my bandwidth and I don't have permission from the rest of the team.

At school (high school) they only taught basic Pascal and VB5, but by then I was already doing ASM/Pascal 2D stuff (LastAid for example), so it was all self learning. At college they didn't teach anything old school (just C++), but I did an Elective on Assembly 32/16-bit (more of a self research and development subject).

As for other games I've worked on, currently had my first commercial game released "Fury" just last week. I've been working on it as a Junior Programmer (though credits say I'm a 'Programmer') for just over a year now.

I also have some mobile games (not released, just personal (might upload to my website though)) that I've made such as Tic-Tac-Toe, Fake Phonebook that 'crashes' (not really) the phone, and a Rope Physics tech demo. I'm looking into taking screenshots on the phone of those things and more (I have plenty of other tech demos, such as bezier curve, fireworks, etc.) running.

thanks man, yeah, it's pretty sweet. Completed one of my life goals and I'm only 21 :S hehe, guess I'll have to work on a few other games. Would love to get a portfolio like one of the senior designers here at work (he worked at Westwood (C&C) for 14 years.. hehe)

I'm in the credits of other released (or soon to be released) games too as a tester; Axys Adventures and Battlestar Galactica for XBOX Live Arcade.

Wow! I didn't know germany has some weird laws about video games!

quote:

Touching up artwork for German version of C&C: Generals. Converting artwork to make characters look less like humans and more like cyborgs to comply with German law

I own a lot of the games on his list too...wow, he's really played a huge role in my character development.
