Hello All,

You may have noticed that my involvement here at CCN has toned down over the past month or so. Here is the reason why Me and my wife Rachel are going to have a baby! He's a boy and will be our first. She is already quite far along and will be due in early January. And now, most of my free time is devoted to taking care of her. But I just wanted to share this great blessing with all of you here.

I was wading through the frames from our ultrasound video and found this one which caught his face, so, I'm pleased to introduce Sam Washburn Jr.

God Bless you all!

Sam and Rachel Washburn

that's sweet (I had a hard time figuring out where's the face though for half a minute or so. A clue: the baby is leaning horizontally on his back with the head to the left)

Hey Sam! Wonderful news! That's terrific.

I had noticed a drop in your activity. I was going to ask about it, but noticed you still appeared to be around, so I thought you just didn't have much to say.

Thanks for filling us in. That is a terrific picture.

congrats sam, you know this days when i see an ultrasound picture i immediately think of abortion protests ,it is nice to see it used for a nice purpose.

as the matter of fact when i saw the title of the page which says "life turns a page" and i see an ultrasound picture and then you started saying how less you were involved here at ccn i was thinking that you became an abortion protestor (like full time) or made a decision like that

so sam i am really curious to know what was your first reaction when you found out that you were going to be a father?

Thank you all for you comments!

@Calin Yeah, I guess I should have pointed that out Thanks for mentioning it.
@mastallama, Thanks I can post baby registry links if people are interested. (hint, hint)
@kenman,jari,S^2, I feel like more of a paparazzi sifting through video frames :P
@cpu, lol, I don't think Rachel would agree with that.
@spade, ..my first reaction.. with some background..

Shortly after we were married, Rachel became pregnant... sort of. It was what they call an anembryonic pregnancy, meaning a womb developed, but no baby inside, which finally miscarried. We prayed about it and struggled with it, and then put it all into God's hands and kind of just went on with life. That was three years ago. We kept trying, but there was nothing.

When Rachel missed her cycle early last May, we thought it was just delayed as it sometimes is. Then she started to get sleepy at strange times and sick during the evening. We decided to get a pregnancy test and she tested positive. Looming over the excitement of the moment was this question... is there a baby inside?

June 1st was her first OB appointment at the supposed eight week mark. After drawing some blood and getting another pregnancy test (which was also positive) we asked the doctor if it was far enough along to see anything with an ultrasound. She said yes and that it was possible to even hear a heartbeat at eight weeks. We then requested an ultrasound, and had to wait another thirty minutes for insurance approval.

When the time came for the ultrasound we were a little nervous. Then there it was, on the monitor, in fuzzy black and white. The doctor said "There's the baby". And it kind of just rang in my ears. Rachel said "Where?" and the doctor pointed out the head and feet. She clicked a few things on the machine to take some measurements and pictures as Rachel and I just stared at the small form on the monitor. Then she pressed a button and we heard the thumping of its little heart. That was AMAZING! We talked with a very excited midwife who said that everything looks "perfect", and she also talked to us about what we needed to do. When we finally left the clinic, we were in a daze and halfway to cloud nine with four thermal printed photos in our hands. Then, about halfway home, it really hit us and we even had some joyful tears.

For us, this is a monumental blessing and nothing short of a miracle. We give God all the glory for it. We are very happy to have Sammy coming soon.

Oh! Here was the first picture.. The one we saw on the monitor.

God Bless!

Funny that in this day and age of Blueray, 1080p, and 10+ megapixel cameras, sound-produced images haven't improved in definition all that much.

CPU, I have seen some pretty good looking 3D imagery a few years ago.

Nice story Sam. Thanks for sharing. Can you believe how quickly the beating heart forms? Unbelievable.

Maybe they could figure out a way to make the sound waves move faster so they could get a higher resolution...

The head of an ultrasound machine is small (usually the size of a quarter although covered up a little).

Thank God for the blessings!

Will he be samw4? Congratulations, I never realized how clear those images were. (I imagined them to be more like the second. but seeing the face is amazing.)
