I'm going to try a little experiment for the next few day. I'm starting up a CCN Teamspeak server, hosted from my computer for now, to which any and all of you are free to connect and hang out if you wish. You can download Teamspeak from teamspeak.com and then use the quickconnect option and connect to server address 76.181.135.224:8767 using whatever user name you want. I'll be away for a little while helping my Mom, but I should be on to do some coding later today. I look forward to talking to some of you soon. Ereon ------------------ |

Well, my Mom wants to listen to an online radio show, so I won't be on for quite a while unfortunately. *sigh* And as soon as it's over my brother is probably going to steal the computer for about 6 hours or so playing Morrowind. Oy. Well, hopefully there will be others who can get on, and I'll pop in when I can. ------------------ |

Morrowind?! I'm shocked. I never heard of the game till Moira mentioned it on CCGR and now everyone seems to be coming out of the closet with announcements that they play Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall... |

Well, it looks like the server has been some success so far. I'll be leaving it on pretty much 24/7 and letting you know if the IP changes any time soon. Pop on when you can and stay on for as long as you can and hopefully we can build a new method of communication. I should be on more tommorrow hopefully, so I'll see you guys then. ------------------ |

just for a heads up, it's best if Guest1 starts talking with a Russian accent to ignore what they are saying and block/mute them. they are not nice and are quiet rude... ------------------ |

Alrighty. I gave myself admin privileges and set up a few cardinal channels, including an away channel for all you temporarily AFK guys and a thinktank for serious discussion. I'll be on hopefully later today (After I finish polishing our fireplace brass :P ) but until then I'll stay on the away area. I also upgraded the speech codecs so everything should sound really clear. Stop by and say hello if you get the time, and even if you can't actualy talk at the moment hop on the Away channel so we know you'll be back soon. See you all on the server. ------------------ |

Alrighty, given the influx of unwanted guest I've added a password. Put Jrulz in as the password to the server if you want to log on. ------------------ |
Ereon Member Posts: 1018 From: Ohio, United States Registered: 04-12-2005 |
Alright guys. I'll be on for a while, settling in for a bit of coding. If anyone wants to join me feel free to log on. You have to set the serve password to Jrulz to login as an anonymous user. I'll give you a registration invite once you log on. ------------------ |

Ok, after alot of hairpulling and being essentially steamrolled by my job, I've finally gotten around to raising the CCN Teamspeak server from the grave. The new server address is 76.181.150.209:8767 . Since I know alot of you are going to be working like crazy on your games feel free to jump on, pal around a bit, and maybe try and break the monotony a little. If you like I can also open some private passworded channels for teams if you need a place to talk things over as you go along. Anyhoo, I should be on and off throughout the day, so if you get a chance just stop by, I'd be glad to have you. ------------------ |

Oh, btw, there's a password in place to keep server surfers out. It's Jrulz . ------------------ |

The server is back up, sorry guys, my little brother killed it by accident. ------------------ |

I was just looking at the licensing agreement for the TeamSpeak software, and I wonder if it has occurred to you that for some who live outside of the United States, use of the software might be illegal if they should mention their faith. I say this because of an overly broad clause in the agreement. Under the Prohibited Conduct section, it says, “You will not use the software to engage in or allow others to engage in any illegal activity.” I am preparing to contact them regarding this clause, but, should that contact prove fruitless, do you think it is wise for Christians to use communications software that is licensed so vaguely that using it to discuss faith might be illegal in some places? There are some countries in which the laws are deliberately worded such that they can incarcerate anyone who even mentions their faith publicly. Perhaps it would be better for someone here to write communications software that would not be burdened by such licensing vagueness. ------------------ "...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. Pray for prayer---pray till you can pray; pray to be helped to pray, and give not up praying because you cannot pray, for it is when you think you cannot pray that you are most praying. Sometimes when you have no sort of comfort in your supplications, it is then that your heart---all broken and cast down---is really wrestling and truly prevailing with the Most High." |

What countries are we talking about here? There are barely any people that go on Ereon's TS server in the first place, let alone people outside of north america. I could be wrong though, but if a government is monitoring data lines to detect "illegal" activity, then wouldn't they be able to pick it up from this forum anyway? ------------------ |

@TallBill If the law says don't share your faith. I say, break the law. In this case God's law trumps man's law. @Jestermax Maybe it is already blocked in some countries. ------------------ |
Ereon Member Posts: 1018 From: Ohio, United States Registered: 04-12-2005 |
Tallbill: There's a server password in place to prevent such an eventuality. The only way a person could acess the server would be to find this site, then this thread, and then the password, you can't acess the server without either having the password or being registered (a privilege grantable only by an admin, which I'm the only one right now). Such an occurance is very unlikely, and not really worth being fearful of. Thanks for your concern though. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Ereon (edited August 09, 2007).] |

Just letting you guys know that the Teamspeak server is still up. You can get the client for free from http://www.teamspeak.com/ and I've configured the server to work even with dial-up connectors. Look forward to seeing you on. Ereon ------------------ |

jestermax Member Posts: 1064 From: Ontario, Canada Registered: 06-21-2006 |
have you thought about making it into a service? that way it only starts or stops when you want it to ------------------ |
Ereon Member Posts: 1018 From: Ohio, United States Registered: 04-12-2005 |
I was toying with the idea, only problem is that I'd have to go to an external site to get the new IPs when it changes. I still might do it, but I also might have to shut down the server because I'm going to college. I won't be near our home computer enough to maintain it. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose. ------------------ |
jestermax Member Posts: 1064 From: Ontario, Canada Registered: 06-21-2006 |
all you have to do is build a small robot with fingers to maintain it you could name him "Fred Astaire" or maybe something more robot-like, like "Bucket" ------------------ |

quote: We are talking about, according to the wording of the license, the laws as written where they are, not where we are. They are in the European Union which, in certain instances, has taken a dim view of Christians' freedom to proclaim the Gospel, or even hold to our views, without the threat of prison time. I have sent them a letter asking them to clarify the problematic passage in such a way that those who speak of their faith would not be under threat of losing their license to use the software. It is most likely that they have not yet received my letter. I will update y'all if and when I receive a response. ------------------ "...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. I honestly don't see why you view it as so important Bill. If Teamspeak revokes a license there's Ventrilo or other various alternatives just as valid. With the talent on this site we could even write our own voicechat system. If you view it as being that important be my guest, but there are always alternatives and I personally don't see much wisdom in maintaining any trouble that could possibly be avoided if another route is taken instead. ------------------ |
