Hey all, i posting a few playable demos on my site:
http://jestermax.googlepages.com/

Zero Hour is my graduation project from college. You need a valid classpath set + a JRE to run it since it's written in Java.

Oh yeah, and btw, the game is rated M for violence and blood (I apologize for that, I was in a group of 3 and was outvoted). The instruction manual for it is on the site as well.

Update: i've compiled my game Zero Hour into a JAR file so all you have to do is double click the ZeroHour.jar file and it'll run. I'll be up momentarily

Awesome. I downloaded Zero Hour earlier, but haven't gotten to it yet (I've been busy working on my random map generator).

You might want to download it again. The new files are MUCH easier to get running. However the old ones will work fine if you can set it up

I have a bit of Java experience, and I'm a Mac user, so I more or less know about getting tweaking things to get them running. (I'm trying to make fun of how challenging it can be to get things working on a Mac; I'm not trying to boast of my limited knowledge.)

Anyway, I'll download the JAR. I look forward to seeing your project.

eh. don't be. that's what interested me.
I'm still sad Eternal War had the "body parts" option taken off.

... I liked it... it just makes the game seem more together.

I think extreme violence hurts (main stream) games, a game should have just enough violence to be suggestive but not enough to disturb a normal person. Right now you have 5 times more blood in a FPS game than what you'd get in a normal real life shooting (we had Criminal Forensics classes in the Law colledge, I got to see all sorts of things).

a good gameplay is a right combination between performance and features.

I really enjoyed the Zero Hour game.
was a ton of fun to play.

a few refinements would make the game better.

first, tweak the bounding boxes.
instead of setting the box to cover the entire character, just have it at the feet. the same for walls, too. so they'll be some overlap and match the perspective you put on the art.
it's also a little weird feeling when your guys hits a wall when you think he shouldn't.

also, make the second level tougher. each time I played it, I never died. maybe tougher new guys?

lastly, one little bug. when you die and where in the midst of firing, you'll rez and be firing. just a little variable to reset on the resurrection function.

so, I don't know if this game is still in the works or not, but I'd like to see more from it.

had a nice classic gaming feel.

Haha, i didn't know about the shooting-rez trick that's really neat.

As for "tweaking", the rest of my team as it turns out don't have any time to work on Zero Hour anymore but due to our contract, i can't work on it without their permission.
Rest assured though, that won't be the last game of it's type i have built an engine that's everything zero hour was and a LOT more so i'm just in the process of collecting game art and deciding on a storyline.
As for the "classic" gaming feel; that's exactly what we wanted it to be when we wrote up the design docs. It's really nice to hear feedback like that, thank you so much for your interest
