I don't see the main thing going against you being any lack of skill -- I think you have incredible talent for animation and creativity. I think you would have the hardest time finding good people to join your team because of your lack of experience -- that's one of the main things that I look for when I sign myself on to help out on other people's projects. There are too many chiefs and not enough indians, and if someone doesn't know how to be a good helper on a project, they're probably not going to know how to treat their own help. The general advice I give to people in your situation is to do one of two things. 1) Pick a very small, very manageable project and see it through to completion (like your Pong: Homeworld Assault game -- that's totally the right idea) and/or 2) Pick a somewhat small, manageable project that someone else is heading up and learn how to be a good helper on that project and try to make a significant contribution to someone else's dream. If you have one or two of those things under your belt that you can show off to other people, you will have a much easier time building a volunteer (or even quality paid) team to complete a bigger dream of yours. But then again, you can write all of this off as the rantings of a dottering old cheeseball -- that's perfectly acceptable. This is just the road that I've started walking down, and I try to encourage others to do the same. Cheers! In Christ, [This message has been edited by HanClinto (edited November 30, 2006).] |
