alright, played your game.

now I shall list the things I liked and the things I think need work on.

the Good:
-graphics were good.
-explosions are awesome.
-fast paced.
-mortal kombat section in the music made me scream out "MORTAL KOMBAT!"
-the death fanfare seems to blend in really well with the main song.

the Bad:
-graphics are a little skimpy in quantity, IE, the bad guys are a different colored good guy. variety adds depth to a game.
-needs more firing options/powerups/whatever for you main guy. hitting the spacebar for the 572th time gets old. maybe some pickups that add a doulbe gun. a smart missle add on. even better if you see updated graphics with the powerup.again with variety.
-needs more enemy types. some that kamikaze. some that shoot. some that sit stationally and fire towards you. some that dodge bullets. Some uber-tough bosses. variety...
-needs definitive levels and win conditions. yes, making arcade is a good deal easier than a leveled game, but the levels and the win adds much more to the gameplay. The player is much less likely to be bored with the game if there are chances to win either the game or the level.

even though the "bad" section is longer than the "good," it doesn't mean the game's bad, just needs work. besides, I'm much better at criticizing than complimenting.

I don't know if it is a work in progress or not, but, I just listed what I think would make the game much fuller. you have a good base to start on, tho.

Definitely intended for people with DSL.

Anyway, I can comment on the game once it finishes downloading.(In about 5 hours and 20 minutes)

Looking forward to your other game's release.

I'm gonna have to agree with archangel on every point( Though I didn't scream out mortal combat).

The clouds and various rates of the backgrounds scrolling gave a nice depth to the visuals. I'd also like to recommend having some enemies coming in from the back; the forward and backward movement doesn't really need to be there unless there is a reason not to be on the back edge the whole time.

TwoBrothersSoftware -- We used Torque Game Builder, and there IS a Linux binary. I can download it to either a Mac or PC, but how should I go about getting the Linux operating system? Thanks for your help.

ArchAngel--You're right on. Thanks for the tips. Right now we're working intently on our commercial release of Exegesis: Spiritual Warfare Simulator.

Lazarus, I here you. I'm stuck in 56k dialup mode, too.

Cohort X -- Thanks for the input, and great eye for detail. We're really stoked about our Feb. release, and we're putting all of our effort into that.

Thanks guys. You rock.

Hi JetSpice!
I tested the game, not my game genre but well done!
Question, how come the verses didn't have reference and some of words were left out?

------------------
1Jo 2:9-10 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
Joh 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Jeff, great site, and well done on your first released game! I wrote up a good page or so of feedback on it last night, and I'll send it to you via e-mail.

Keep up the great work! Definitely looking forward to Exegesis!

Jari -- Some of the words were left out to summarize the scripture. It's a banner advertisement for the Bible to "spark interest." In order to retain mystery, yet reveal scripture, I opted for no references.

TwoBrothersSoftware -- thank you. I'll PM.

HanClinto -- thanks for taking the time. Looking forward to reading it.

Hmm, how can anyone find the full scripture without the reference? For those who have not read Bible before, or not that much it seems very hard without running a text search - on multiple translation until you find the correct one!
Don't you think?

Mack -- we still have that logo! It's on a blog right now. http://jetspice.bluegillweb.com/blog Thanks to Guategeek for the design.

Jari -- I like to think of the diversity in the Body of Christ as this: Some people fish for men with a net, and others with a pretty lure, and others with a struggling worm. You'll definately appreciate the scripture referencing in the commercial release of Exegesis. And thank you! I've always had an ear for your commentary!

Liked the game, it brings back the 80's!

Would have liked to see different bad guys and different power-ups. But good game!

Best point - Definitely know where you stand!

Keep up the good work.

Sounds good! I was worried how God's word would not be in its glory without all the words.
Why not let the missing words fly around and let the player to catch them for bonus? Or does that break the game play, its just a suggestion.

Jari- For a little while, I was thinking of having interaction with the scripture. In Revelation, it talks about a scroll flying in mid-air. But I think it's for a different game. It's a very cool idea, and when I think about it, it's a concept in the Bible, starting with manna from heaven. The bread that fed the Israelites every day foreshadowed our (Christians') daily bread which is the Word of God.

I've actually done a lot of thinking about how to present the word in entertainment form. I think of it as seriously as if there were a misprint in a Bible--the publisher would need to recall all the Bibles. When I studied the words of Jesus and Paul, I noticed that many times they quoted the Old Testament in a new way. So it is permissable for me to do it, but only after much careful study of the Word. James says "Not all should strive to be teachers..." meaning the consequences of mis-guiding people are severe. Paul says to "rightly divide" the Word, and to study it. The scriptures in HOST are there to support the concept of the game: Spiritual beings of good and evil exist, and they fight in the heavens. They are not body-less, but the Bible describes what they look like in detail.

JeTSpice, ok this is actually very interesting topic!
It's a good point Jesus and Paul quoted the Bible different way but when Paul says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - 2Ti 2:15, he must mean sharing?

About the spiritual beings in heavens, remember that much that is written is figurative speech and its also possible that it's just the way spirits are represented to us who are in flesh.

But anyway, yeah, it's important not to give false information which is not the truth.

Jari, rightly dividing implies disecting in my mind. I'm claiming to have the knowledge to do so. I have not seen Heaven and don't know if Scripture is a figure of speech or not. If it were a figure of speech, then I wouldn't be in Heaven, anyway--it would be a figure of speech. My opinion is that Heaven is a real place. At this point, we are discussing opinions and not scripture. But if it still interesting to you, start another thread and invite me over.

On topic...

Within the next week, we hope to translate the site and the game into several different languages. Right now, we're working on getting the download size reduced for people in countries where internet is paid for by the megabyte.
