Hey guys. I found this nifty useful wiki page on how to create fractal desktop wallpapers with the gimp.
Here's an image that I created I call it "Fractal Dragon".

The link to the howto is: http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_GIMP_Fractal_Backgrounds
NOTE: The instructions on the wiki page work on any OS that supports GIMP 2.2.x and the required plugins (they come by default with GIMP 2.2.12).

I'd be interested in seeing what your computers and creative tastes come up with.

That is kinda cool. What I would like to see is fractals of the descriptions of flames and shine from the Bible.

Eze 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Both picutres are AWESOME - Great work!

Here I go, now to see how much controversy I can create.

I use BOTH CS2 and Gimp 2, and I prefer GIMP for the majority of my artistic creations. Yes Photoshop has some pretty neat plug-ins, but GIMP has more that fit my needs. Try and render a sphere in both and tell me which is easier. On the other hand, try and load a .RAW image into GIMP. IMHO - Gimp is powerfull enought to use as a professional medium to create artwork and photo retouching. I actually prefer GIMP when retouching wedding photos.

That looks interesting, could make for some good base textures to create particle emitters with.

hey check this one out. i did gradients on different layers *then* i did the flame filter with the opposite of that gradient. then i did a different one on a different layer. then i put a gradient beneath the two fractals. i think it looks really cool:

[edit] lol, i just noticed parts of it look like hair. lol.
