Google Earth 4 Beta is available for Linux!
This is great! I (and many other people) didn't expect this to happen so soon!

Maybe. But I enjoy looking at sattelite images of the earth and tried for weeks to get Google Earth for windows to run under wine. Plus diskpace is cheap!

Isn't google earth the computer generated terrain one? If you want sattelite images, go to google maps. Its all online so you don't need to download anything.

or check this out, you can see locations from N,S,E or W directions its pretty cool! so you can see the front back left or right side of your house! (probably windows only, though)

No it's sattelite images. The terrain is 3Dified.

I always find time to tinker with something fairly simple once in a while

If you live in a hi-def city you could see all four sides of your house. Mine's not 3D but I can do a 360 around my back yard.

Well, actually that was picasa. I just noticed that Google Earth is made up of native linux binaries.

Roads? You should have seen buildings... search for Grand Canyon (within Google Earth) then adjust the angle... it's very cool
