I wrote an article for Newsforge (yes they paid me) about Gentoo Linux. Check it out: http://os.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/03/15/228227 Some people have written interesting comments about Gentoo as well. ------------------ [This message has been edited by CPUFreak91 (edited March 21, 2006).] |

i like both... didn't understand some of it (i know zilch about Linux lol) but it was interesting... i want to try Linux out, but my dad won't let me lol... cuz a lot of programs don't run on it, and he doesn't want to risk partitioning it... ------------------ |

I'd like to sample different linux flavors but I've already got my HDD partitioned and set up with Kubuntu. Do they have a live disk available? Hey yeah, buddyboy. You can use a live disk. I know Knoppix and Ubuntu are available as live disks. If you go to the Ubuntu website, they will even send you a disk free of charge (free shiping even). Ubuntu: Knoppix: the Knoppix live disk starts up and gets everything configured waaay faster than the ubuntu disk though. But anyways, I'm interested in finding more Live samples of Linux distros. Seems to me it would be a great way to find just the right distro. I'll check out the Gentoo site . Update:

There are loads of Gentoo based distro's like Vida Linux, haven't checked the live cd out. You could install your fave distro and use the Linux Live scripts to roll your own What does everyone think of portage? Good or bad? I'm not a huge fan but it's certaintly a lot better then most package managers. --D-SIPL ------------------
