im starting work on a "christian" version of the beloved classic Chip's Challenge. I personally love that game, and it got me thinking. Wouldn't the fire boots and flippers translate perfectly to a Christian-oriented game? Fireboots, allowing you to walk through fire, would apply perfectly to situations like the one faced by Shadrac, Meshak, and Abednego. (forgive speeling errors.) The flippers, allowing you to pass the water by swimming throught it could easily be translated to allowing you to "walk" on water, like Peter did (for a few seconds, lol). So it would be like taking fortune cookies and making them scripture cookies: same general idea, slightly different content. Story: storyline isnt all that important to a game like this, but if you will remember, chips challenge DOES indeed have a storyline. My storyline will probably be something along the lines of the "daily life of a christian" format. It wouldn't really teach any lessons...its just a little maze game with Bible-related content. Its more of a novelty than anything else. Any ideas are welcome, as there are plenty of opportunites for creativity here. Also, I am thinking of naming something along the lines of "Daily Desciple" or "Digital Disciple"...corny names i know...haha. ------------------ btw...its crazy-ish-one |

A "Christian Chip's Challenge" -- I like the idea! However, making miracles like the firey furnace and walking on water into objects that can be picked up -- that's just a little wierd. But as for the general concept, I like it a lot! Maybe for truth keys, you need to answer a Bible verse question about truth, and you can use truth keys to get past doors of doubt. And to obtain a temptation shield, you could answer a question about resisting the Devil and then you could last long enough to make it through a corridor of oppression or something. Very cool idea! I like it thus far. --clint ------------------ |

Hey HanClinto, thanks for the suggestions, and just so u know I did put them in my Design Doc. (and I gave u credit) If anybody is interested in this project, I hav alot of info on it in the Design Doc. I have worked out some of the kinks, and now have a finished "idea". The only thing left to do is plan the levels. There will be 66 of them... I think i may make all of my pieces first (and build the levels modularly)...im not sure if it is necessary to predesign the levels when making a game like this...maybe.. anyway, i can email the design doc, or u can find it on my web site on the "random Rants" page. please, suggestions for improvement and any other kind of help is greatly appreciated. (esp. in the area of sprite creation and Bible-Knowledge) [This message has been edited by crazyishone (edited August 04, 2005).] |

Yo Crazyish, Cool! I read the whole design document, very nice! Thanks for the credit btw -- but if it is too much trouble to maintain whose ideas come from where, you can just put my name in a "minor thanks" section. Wow, very apocolyptic storyline! I must say I was expecting something a little more layed back (such as a more "daily Christian life's challenges"), but nevertheless, I'm still interested in seeing where you go with this. Do you have designs for what you're going to code this in? It almost seems like Torque2D would be a great platform for this (as in Torque2D, you can compile for Windows, Mac and Linux). yes...its a very...heavy...storyline..maybe too much.lol. n/e way it is just backstory, that nobody will really pay attention to, but i had fun thinking it up. Honestly i don't think anybody cared whether Chip got accepted into Melinda's little cyber-club...it was just a really fun game. um...lets see, i was thinking about using Gamemaker 6, but htat might not cut it.....if u have knowledge of this Torque2D stuff, that could be helpful. Takes a little pressure off of me. The fact that it compiles for all of those operating systems is another plus,,,, ------------------ btw...its crazy-ish-one |

hey Crazyish, did you get my email requesting a copy of the design doc? it would have come from Jeremy@JeremySouthard.org and titled Digital Disciple. Do you have a website idea for this game too? Gotta promote it to the masses somehow! After actually playing Chip's Challenge, which is a very fun game, I find I should tell you that I have made 3 games in a similar fashion before using GameMaker 5/6. I never finished the projects and I'll see if I still have the files to show you what I did. We could totally render the levels in 3D and use 3Dish sprites to make the game look really really good. It's really simple to do the sprites that way too, once you make the model in <insert_prefered_3d_modeling_program> you can just rotate the model and export images to use as the sprites, giving you full capability to use 8 directional movement (if desired) without having to draw awkward looking 2D images of characters angles at 45 degrees. ...but I digress, hit me up with the design doc. If you've got AOL or the AOL Instant Messenger, you can catch me there by the same name if you wanna chat! MastaLlama ------------------ http://www.jeremysouthard.org |

Hey Crazyishone Just looked at the site, I did not think the story would be that... deep. Wow, I think it would make a great game, lol, a great time-passer, while growing spiritually, lol. I think each level should be somehow related to each book of the Bible that the current verse is from. Like for Genesis you could be moving through the Garden of Eden, or something... and then for Exodus you could be in Egypt, or something that looks like that. Don't know, just an idea, lol. Good work on the game though, I am looking forward to more info, lol. |

Hey, Crazyish, I like the concept of the graphic, but I think the g in Digital needs to be redone, lol, the bottom of it looks like an upside down cross. Unless of course you have a reason for doing it like that, lol. Well anyway, Later ------------------ |
crazyishone Member Posts: 1685 From: Registered: 08-25-2004 |
thanks. its a font, so i cant really change...nor do i see the need...its a game (a relativley dark game) about dark times, so if you think something is implied in the upside-down cross, so be it. Lol. i didnt catch it, but its not hurting anything. also, to kill any confusion here, while working with MastaLlama on the game (or planning the work, lol) quite a bit has changed. It is now more of an adventure/maze game. It still has all 66 mazes, but there is a bigger world which the player moves around in. So, there will be some rpg elements present. And a mini-game (maybe)....we have worked out the kinks in the story. Almost all of the things you see in my above posts have changed (for the better). The game is more realistic now, instead of metaphorical. Any questions or comments are welcome (but criticism and ideas will fall on deaf ears, lol. not because im mean, i just dont want it to evolve anymore. hehe.)
