Hello everyone,

Just found this site. Didn't know anything like it existed.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Curtis Ratica. I've been in the computer game/video game industry for the past decade and have worked on several AAA titles in a variety of capacities from Art director, lead artist, environment artist as well as Creative Director and designer. Prior to being the game industry I was a production manager for 9 years while working at a hi-tech firm in Menlo Park, California. Prior to that I studied computer programming at several colleges in California and Oklahoma A&M. Anyhow, God spoke to me about 3 years ago and told me to make games for Him. Well, as of January, 2005, I have been doing just that. I've been working full time on a startup company called Cloud 9 Games, you can see a very basic, simple website I put up at cloud9games.com. You can also learn more about our short term goal (about 2 years in duration) of producing a series of gameshow-like Bible Trivia games. Our long term goals are to a produce a AAA MMORPG for the PC as well as exciting AAA titles for the next generation of XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. I have several game designs I want to produce, but so little time/resources!

I look forward to your comments.

Thank you,

Curtis Ratica

Hello Curtis! Welcome to CCN!

Impressive demo for Soloman Says! It reminds me of an expanded version of You Don't Know Jack -- I really like that!

Very glad to have you here!

I don't know how much you have looked into MMO middleware, but I just found out at the CGDC last weekend that Micro Forte is owned by a Christian, and he really desires to see Christian MMO's made with the Big World engine that they've developed.

Take care!

In Christ,
clint

Right on, praise God!

I like the part where God tells you He wants you to make games for Him. It helps confirm that God's calling doesn't always mean "missionary trip to -insert 3rd world country here-".

BTW, I love your solomon. Very nutty/happy/joyous.

Thanks a bunch!

I'm looking forward to getting this series of products out.

That's true Ashton, I sometimes thought I would be sent to
Zimbawe but looks like I get to settle here in good ole' Austin,
Texas!

Yes, HanClinto, I'm aware of Micro Forte and in fact have had a few
email exchanges with the owner. I wish them well. We're not ready
to go MMO yet. I'll need to sell a lot of Solomon Say's to be in
that position. It will happen, just not in the immediate future. I have
a game design written for what I believe will be a FANTASTIC christian
MMO but it will take about $2.5 million to develop. While I believe the
Christian game market is ready for this, most(all?) publishers aren't ready to spend big$ on a christian game. (although I believe my MMO game design would be very entertaining for anyone, regardless of their faith or lack thereof). Hopefully with the success of games from Micro Forte and Cloud 9 Games, publishers will see that there is a tremendous market
out there. I think the most important thing to remember though is to make a good game for Christians that will honor God and still be loads of fun.

Don't the Xbox people, etc. have to approve your game after you pay all of these fees to put it on their system and then even after you pay they can still deny the game? So that's kinda cool if they have approved your Christian game already, did you get a letter from them or something?

I doubt they have already, it's just a goal for the future. Also, note that his post is from almost a year ago.

For anyone who is interested in an update on Cratica and his company, they've recently contracted with Digital Praise to sell their Solomon Says game. It even interfaces with the Dance Praise mat so that you can stomp to buzz into the game -- it's pretty cool. We got to see it at this year's CGDC. It's really encouraging to see people succeed and ship product like this.
