I use the collision feature that came with Blitz3D, though I would like write my own collision algorithm, I just need to know what kind of math it uses. |

Just a couple of things, (Art based, natuarly). Firstly, a quick question, are you going to texture the models at a later stage? Secondly, the human models are really good, you have the proportions spot on, but I would edit them slightly. It seems that on the legs, it gets fatter at the joints, now this isn't very realistic. I advise changing it so it just narrows down, as it goes down the leg. Also, on the arm, the elbow show stick out slightly firther then the shoulder, or be in-line with it, It shouldn't dip in. Other then that, I really like the art. I really like your boat. I think the first Screeny of the new version shows the art the best |

If you need some textures I'm at your service. I specialize in textures, modelling 3D weaponry, and doing small, detailed objects (chests, chairs, windows, and some buildings). If you want I'll trade some of my stuff for your stuff if you like, I also have a few textures you can have if you tell me what you want and what size. ------------------ |

Though I appreciate all of the help I would like to see any of your models Ereon. Like in a showcase or your own thread By the way, those pictures are already out of date for the 2nd demo, because I have already made changes to the character, that Kiwee suggested, and I also textured the important stuff on the character. ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited January 09, 2006).] |

I've got a couple that I've worked on, but they vary in detail (and I'm getting much more detailed not). What are the limits of you game engine, and what kind of swords do you want in the game (hugemongus fantasy, classic medieval, fancy swords, rapiers, ect)? I'll make you a model and you can see if you like it. ------------------ |
Ereon![]() Member Posts: 1018 From: Ohio, United States Registered: 04-12-2005 |
Here's a link to a pair of katanas I did for my own game, each is extremely low poly and relies of the bump maps in the textures to add detail. http://www.freewebs.com/ereon/Screenshots/sword4.jpg I had alot more, but I lost most of it in a computer crash. ------------------ |

Wow, I love those swords, what file format are they in? You know, I would love working with you, maybe not for this project for now (I will have to see), but I had this idea for a Medieval Japanese game, about a Samurai who accepts Christ, I was thinking of doing it in 2d, but since Blitz 3d is working out for me really well I might do it in 3d. I am not sure if I will make it or when, but it would be great if you could contribute to it if I get the ball rolling. What do you say? ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited January 13, 2006).] |

hey lava i love that idea about a christian samurai, you could make him a ronin (unemployed samurai)... if you did it would you mind if i helped with a storyline? i love to do those.... but making him a ronin would be great, seriously... like you could do how he was this really good samurai a bodyguard for this really powerful warlord or whatever, but he gets 'laid off', so to speak, and so his great life suddenly seems meaningless, and he gets ministered to, and then it turns out his 'great boss' was really actually corrupt and was like, accepting payoffs from some opium dealers or something. then you have to fight against your former boss and try to witness to people at the same time.... just some ideas... ------------------ |
|
Lava Member Posts: 1905 From: Registered: 01-26-2005 |
lol, sure I wouldn't mind if you helped, your ideas sound good, if you have anymore write them down and save them when I make the thread sometime. I'll make the thread after I write the plot out, but I am opened minded, we don't have to use my original plot. ------------------ |
buddboy![]() Member Posts: 2220 From: New Albany, Indiana, U.S. Registered: 10-08-2004 |
you don't mind if i write a plot for when you make the thread do you? i would like to write one even if it's not used (which i would be thrilled if it were tho)... i will write down any ideas i have tho... i'll probably do some research on the way the area was run and how samurai's acted other than the whole ninja thing... ------------------ |

It's fine with me, remember the era will be during the first time missionaries ever came over to Japan, so that would be around the 1500s. ------------------ |
crazyishone![]() Member Posts: 1685 From: Registered: 08-25-2004 |
quote: <rant> Eh. What are you talking about? Ninjas and Samurai are not the same. The ninja was basically the samurai's negative. The Samurai believed in honor- fighting honorably, not accepting defeat (to the point where they would commit suicide). Ninja business was more underhanded, and had little to do with honor. Most "ninja" were employed either as (disguised) bodygaurds or assasins. While Samurai were almost always either bodygaurds or actively part of a military, as far as I know, they didn't get into "assasinations" and sneaky business like that. Ninja were feared by samurai, and suspected to have magical powers, etc. Ninja did their job and ran, often employing tactics some would deam "cowardly" or "dishonorable". (i.e. samurai :-P) anyway. ------------------ |

Wood textures are thanks to Crazyishone, for showing me a great program Here is the link to the program used: This house is going to be one of a dwarf village. The particular dwarf I have showed you guys might live in this or one of the houses in the vilage. Right now these screens are in the 4 fifths, or more, of completion. So some things may be a little different or added by the time I have released the demo Thanks to some brushes I made in photoshop and the new wood texture program, my graphics have improved a great deal. ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited January 19, 2006).] |

ninja clans were originaly started by the peasant classes of japan to protect themselves from the samurai. In fudal Japan the Samurai could often be quite oppresive and brutal to the common people. The commoners basicly had no rights and a samurai could pretty much kill or abuse them at will. ------------------ |

If I may suggest, get a darker, more worn texture for your floor and get several different types of wood. It keeps everything from seeming like it runs together, which is the impression I'm getting right now. It all seems like it was hollowed out of the same piece of wood .------------------ |

Hey I wrote a little bit more about the story and so I whipped up a teaser section of the plot and a tentative title. This is about all I will give you about the story until you will play the actual game, but this is earlier than I expected, I was expecting to give it out by the time the 3rd demo was finished. Tentative title: Guardian A young man named Wearg is on the move; under arrest for many crimes, so heinous they are not even spoke of. He is condemned to never see the light of day. His future awaits him.... ------------------ |

Simon_Templar Member Posts: 330 From: Eau Claire, WI USA Registered: 10-25-2004 |
Samurai were like any other group of people some were good and some were bad. They did have alot of power in their culture tho, and as a result when they were bad, they could be very bad. In addition to that, it was the culture itself which didn't value human life to a high degree, not just samurai. ------------------ |

He won't appear in the demos until at least the offical Guardian demo\Adventure Demo 3. Which will have a small amount from the actual game. As of now this model has 600 more polys than model that is used in the latest Adventure demo pictures: ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited May 27, 2006).] |

Thanks guys ![]() I have cut alot of features out of the latest Adventure demo, even some that I mentioned recently, which I *hope* to implement in later updates. But right now the package all zipped and everything is 21.3 MB. This is about 7 times as much as the previous demo. Now downloading something this big is a breeze for me, because I have DSL. So here's a question, will this take too long for you guys? ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited June 05, 2006).] |

20mb is nothing for my connection but some one who has a modem it is likely to be too much... ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) [This message has been edited by jari (edited June 05, 2006).] |

I'm just downloading it and the download is surprisingly slow (must be a slow server) but that's alright I just hope it wont become a problem to any one. Have you gone through all the files to see if there is anything unnesessary/unused? ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

Hey man, it's been a while since I posted anything. But MAN! Those screenies are lookin good! one suggestion, could you slim down the trunks on the trees a little? they look really bulky. Other than that, the game looks GREAT! Where can I download the new demo? ------------------ |

Thank you guys I appreciate all of the critisim, compliments and altogether support.Juust so you guys know I got new free hosting (thanks to Crazyishone for the idea), it's separate from the freewebs site. So that should clear up the slowdown. ------------------ |

gotta work on that walk animation. sure, I know it's hard, but it makes it so much better. after all, the gamers are gonna have to watch that guy throughout the entire game. might as well hive them some kick-butt run. ------------------ |
