Whatever am I to do with you ArchAngel? BTW, I've increased the max avatar size. I plan on adding Christian avatars to the gallery. I've also posted a description of what of my "Roler" project is on my website . ------------------ |

Lost control of my webpages . Don't know what happened - first, I couldn't upload, now I can't access them at all . I'm awaiting a response from my hosting company, but right now I can't update my webpages at all. I still seem to be able to post to my message boards, though. ------------------ |

hmmm.. weird, probably just a server thing... or, a sinister plot by the UN to take over the world and make Jacques Chirac the totalitarian dictator.... hmmm, probably not the last one. |

Or how about Jacques Cousteau? Anyway, make sure about your hosting company--reliability is the most important. Curry |

They claim reliability, but I noticed that it's really the reliability of their web server (I've never really seen my web site go completely down). Adninistration tools is another matter. It's their FTP server that's had the most troubles. I've never seen anything this bad happen before, though. It's more than the FTP server locking me out - everything's locking me out . I've never had that happen. They haven't replied yet, I assume that's because of the weekend. They're usually very, very good at getting my issues resolved. They'll probably resolve it on the first business day. It's hard to find cheap hosts with everything I want. ------------------ |

phpbb2 is a super squeaky clean message board though looks great, although I have a definite affection for these old infopop ones that Krylar has the phpbb2 support is massive too, they have a SUPERB message board for all message board admins which is pretty good, I have amazed myself at how many posts I have run up on there, hehe the support on there is quite honestly (probably) tons better than any support you'd get on your website the increase in avatar size is just one example of just how much control you have over things take care ------------------ |

so, um, CobraA1... would you suggest the server? |

Well, other than FTP going down every once in a while, yes, I would recommend them, if you're willing to pay - but they're pretty cheap IMHO. Support is actually superb, IMHO - any issues I had, they resolved quickly, usually within a business day. The webservers themselves are up all of the time so my site is accessible all of the time, I've got my own domain name, a lot of niceties that free hosts don't give like PHP, SSH, unlimited email boxes, IMAP, etc. I switched to them primarily because I could get my own domain name, and it's a yearly payment, so I'm not always worrying about a bill (although I'm kinda worried right now - I think I've has the service about a year, and I haven't received any bills from my credit card company - I need to figure out exactly when I signed up). I switched from GeoCities, which unfortunately, started going downhill ever since they got taken over by Yahoo. Losing FTP support was the last straw - FTP is how I keep my pages up-to-date! So I switched to host-grid.com. Overall, I'd recommend them. They're cheap compared to other paying hosts, they offer a lot of space - the smallest packace is 1 GB! Their terms of use are pretty loose, just the basic no spam/no porno/no illegal stuff agreement. They actualy allow reselling of their services also! ------------------ |

Hum ho hum . . . Aack, I forgot to notify 2checkout.com (the company in charge of billing me) of an address change. I hope that can be resolved. I'm not sure that's the problem, since the bill probably isn't due yet, but if the new residents at my old address called the company about it, that might do it. ------------------ |

Hooray! Finally got things fixed. Host-grid fixed whatever was wrong with FTP and stuff, and also had to give me a new password. I quickly changed it back to the original password, and everything works now . ------------------ |

Major internal changes to my navigation code. As you may (or may not) have noticed, the page title and filename of the page were passed to PHP in the URL. You could've given a page a different title just by changing the URL . Now, that's changed - a pageid is passed to PHP, and both files look the id up in a text file, and get their information from a single, hidden file. It also prevents me from having to copy and paste HTML each time I want to add something to my navigation bar. It also does the alternating colors thing automatically . Makes things easier for me, and easier for anybody bookmarking my pages . ------------------ |
