I was tempted to vote "Avalanche should catch on fire and drop dead" for grins, but I figured you wanted serious feedback ------------------ |

n00b ok, actually, here's what i think. First of all, you should try something you can do. Don't go too big, something doable. As far as genre, make some c00l RPG. ------------------ [This message has been edited by InsanePoet (edited July 29, 2003).] |

haha.. yeah, I agree.. hence the poll. it's for a small project we're gonna work on. I'm putting you down for the "small RPG" choice. thanks InsanePoet!

I have a fondness for remakes and I reckon they could be profitable too. If you got a few different teams to submit a remake, they could be sold as an attractive package to all us jaded gamers out there. If I went into a store and sore a 'RETRO PACK!' that had nice new versions of say Joust, Galaga, Phoenix, Gyruss, and Pooyan, I'd buy it in an instant. The beauty of that is that they are reasonably easy to do, and you don't need to go through the pain of trying to persuade members to join your team for a mammoth long term project. |

Do a small RPG and then give tutorials on how you make it ! |

I like RTS myself. A good, original RPG would be nice also. ------------------ |

ah, yes... RTS would be very nice... but it ain't that easy to make... someday, maybe, someday... yeah, Jas, a remake could be cool.. maybe get some game that well all thought was great. I always wanted to make an RPG... I'd want to actually make a large 3d one someday.. |

Err, what engine by what guy? I've found an RPG engine called "Sphere" that I'm going to take a look at. 4given4sin still needs another programmer, BTW. Once I get back into the fall semester the amount of time I have available to help him will drop. ------------------ |

If you are interested in going 3d, you might like to take a look at one of the 3d engine add-ons for gamemaker. There's one called freegadget, which I've had a quick look at and it is pretty impressive. The add-on is free from http://home.tiscalinet.de/xception/dlls.htm |

Freegadget uses billboard tricks. Xception's DLL for GameMaker is polygonal . I'd recommend starting 2D, though. ------------------ |

Maybe I used the wrong name, the link I gave was the one I tested which is probably xceptions by the look, and it was definetely polygonal as the demo has you shooting little 'teletubbies' in an outside terrain. It looked like something with heaps of potential. |
