I'm going to cut back on those web based games - require a lot of detail, and were surprisingly addicting . But, as I said in the title of my topic, this is about software.

I'm looking to get something going as far as getting a game completed - I've got a bunch of old, but complicated projects lying around. I really need a fresh, good, simple game to get things kicked off. I also wouldn't mind teaming up with other Christian gaming companies to get something done - so far, CobraA1 software is just me .

Ideas? Advice?

I've already got a website at http://www.cobraa1.com and I've set up forums at http://www.cobraa1.com/forum

Hey! That sounds like my company(Avalanche Interactive)! actually, I got one friend in on with me, so that's cool.

Yeah, we're working on our first game... Bean and Rye. It's kinda like an adventure game (like space quest and king's quest)
yeah, and I'm thinking having Avalanche help out with Infinitum. But I have get my friend in on it too...
Why am I telling you this... dunno. It might have a use... or maybe I just like blathering...

Cool. Looks like you got a nice host too - same stuff as host-grid.com - PHP, plenty of space & bandwidth, similar prices (host-grid is a yearly basis, though).

How do you plan on selling it? Freeware? Shareware? Commercial?

I was a big fan of the King's and Space quest series (although the last versions of Space quest went downhill IMHO )

Heh, my siblings decided to replay space quest (forget which one - pre-IV, I think) after not playing it since we were young - we installed, played the whole thing and uninstalled it all on the same day . Didn't even use a hint book. I guess we remembered it after not playing all these years.

haha. cool. I'm in the middle of SQ6 now. Yeah, it could do with out some stuff
Didn't use a hint book? wow. That's good.
I always use one. (yeah, I know. cheap. But they make the puzzles so hard!!! I'm gonna try to make mine logical and workable...)

for Bean and Rye, freeware.
Tho, me and my friend plan to go into 3d. then, we might sell some, maybe shareware, who knows?
mann, I really have to bump up the work on this game...

Logged on you forum... looks nice!

OK, well, I plan on having my first software for sale - money is something I really need if I want to do serious development. Sure there's stuff (like GameMaker) for free, but the really good stuff costs money.

Thanks about the forum. It's the basic phpBB board, with a QuickReply mod. I hope to change the title graphic to something related to CobraA1 Software, and change the link to point to the root directory instead of the forums so a user has quick access to my webpage from the forums. I also have to make a link to the forums from the webpage .

Yeah, we remembered most of the puzzles in Space Quest, so we didn't need to re-solve them .

So far, we're the only two people on my forum - I hope to get more after I release a game. IMHO a community is vital to a successful game. There's also a test user, but that's just a user for testing the forums with so I know how the permissions affect the average user.

Maybe, someday, Avalanche and CobraA1 will team up on an ultimate project. heh heh. who knows?

No, I don't mind. May I link to yours?

BTW, Google uses links to check the popularitry of a site, so you're increasing my search engine ratings when you do that .

A board is also a cheap way to add customer support, and to get feedback.

I mostly make stuff for fun, but I'm probably getting too old for fun. I normally like to work on my own because I mostly have specific tastes as to what I want to do. Having said that, I could use some extra money, so if you come up with a guaranteed money-maker, that has a good chance of selling, I might show some interest.
What I'm working on at the moment:

Elevator Action remake (you can get a look at the alpha here http://home.iprimus.com.au/j_brown/elevatoralpha.zip
It should be in beta form next week.
Also, I'm working on a graphics application, which is a sequel of sorts to Microsofts 3D Movie Maker, which I want to sell when finished, but that's a ways off. I have been using Blitz Basic 2D/3D for a while, but recently discovered the delights of GameMaker, which is what I'm using for the Elevator Action remake.

Elevator action is pretty good. some flaws, like the guy would float without the elevator. but, hey, it is still an alpha.

Hey, cobraA1, uh, tried to get an avatar on your forum. I tried both ways. just curious. also, can you give me a quick runby on how you installed phpbb. thanks homie.

cobraa1.com is down for some reason, but I know what the problem is - the permissions don't allow uploading. As soon a CobraA1.com is up again, I'll fix it.

OK, try it now. I've updated the permissions, and was able to upload my own avatar.

Regarding Elevator action, I recently uploaded a new release which gets rid of <most> of the elevator bugs, and now supports weapons, dying etc...

cool, I like the ability to shoot. heh heh.

yeah, saw your avatar. still can't get mine... hmmmm... I wonder.

gives me the debug code:
Line : 157
File : /home/virtual/site332/fst/var/www/html/forum/includes/usercp_avatar.php

if that helps. Forum looks great, tho.
