-Forget the CAPS! -Post in only one topic, please. Don't post the same thing in different topics. -I really don't like the idea of going around raiding and commiting acts of violence to solve America's problems. You don't fight crime with crime. It's an un-christian way of tackling problems. ------------------ |

Mmmm, yep. I'd have to say I agree with CobraA1 completely on all 3 of those points. †Caleb† ------------------ |

I agree on first and second points, but about the third.... I think there's a place in a game for treating real-life bad guys who hurt our society like...well, bad guys! Indeed, they are doing the devil's work in very practical ways, and too often, they're a lot busier and more enthusiastic than the people who are supposed to be doing God's work! The question is all about how the details of such a game done. I have struggled with this question myself. I think there would be good ways to do something like Steve has described. Basically, the way it's done has to be guided spiritually and morally, and also practically--what will the approach accomplish for the audience, will it inform and convert people to truth, or support people who believe, or stand up for victims of these types of evils, or something good like that? So, I would suggest people don't jump to an overly simplified conclusion on this type of matter, and also, we have to be careful not to let judgment on one thing (the game idea) be affected by something annoying but mostly unrelated (double posting and all caps). It's a complex question. This type of idea has the potential to turn out really good or really bad! I think it will be a better game if you think about the goal you want to accomplish with it, then that will affect how you make the game. If it's mostly just gratuitous in blowing away the political / moral / social enemies, then it may make someone have an outlet for their feelings, but did the game change anything or really have a good effect on society? On the other hand, people *do* need to realize that these enemies are real and destroying society, so if handled in the right way, it could help to open the eyes of some people that are not very aware of what's going on socially and spiritually, and give people who are more aware a nudge and reminder that these problems are still out there and we all need to do something to help defend our society from evil. But that means you have to really sit down and think about how to accomplish it, and you might have to adjust some details of your idea based on what you figure out. Social / moral games are an area I'm going into and hoping to do some pioneering there. There's a lot of room for exploring and making something there--it's a frontier! There are also a variety of game genres--and even non-game software--that can be done with this type of topic. I am planning to hold myself to releasing at least one social / moral game this year, so I'll keep you guys posted, and I'll be happy to participate in any discussions about this area of game and software developing. I removed the other topic seeing as this one has more replies, I also combined both messages since this one had less content than the other. As everyone else mentioned, please don't double post on purpose (could have been a mistake, which is alright) and please don't use caps lock. Thanks and Welcome to CCN! ------------------ |

Sorry For Puting It In All Caps, I Copied And Pasted It From My Notes. Grand Theft Auto Was Popular ,I Needed A Game That Could Counter It. Anyway,Sweetness And Light Games NEVER EVER Sell In The Mainstream, So My Game Idea Is Great. Most Of My Other Game Ideas Use Characters From Existing Games And TV Shows. While My Other Game Plans Are Continuations For Existing (and might I add,Copyrighted)Game Series(like my street fighter x series.). Well Peace out, Bros. Steve |

haha, alrighty. the caps are sorta annoying, but nothing big. I don't mind spiritual warfare. (in a matter of fact, I wanna make game about it myself. Though I would refer to those people as lost more then evil. Demon blood will run, tho.) The girls? explain. the angels? Edit: minor changes, like spelling. hmmm... sounds very anime. cool! okay, so there are not, angels, but the characters you play are these girls. okay, I think I'm getting it. hmmm... though I'm pretty much an anti-liberal, anti-sodomy, anti-christian hater... now that these are human chicks taking down these people... it's begining to look doubtful... though I play Unreal and other games. A little too vigilante, I guess. My opinion. P.S. I'd probably play as Serena, or Lita, or Maria, or Tara... ------------------ |

several more characters you could use from the worlds of mythology and such, especially considering that many of them are rooted in the various world religions (it seems that is your common thread for all your baddies). some areas you could consider: English (Anglo-Saxon) mythology you touched on some Eastern elements, and seeing as how your idea lends itself well to the anime style i would recommend you start there. but, since you do mix things up alot with the different characters, i think all the above references can be tied in to give you more baddies. specifically i was thinking of the likes of Lilith, Medusa, Oden, Osiris...many more characters for you beyond them. you also have the priests/preistesses of these 'gods' you can make use of as well. the biggest thing for you to deal with in terms of these baddies and assigning bosses is how the mythological heirarchy works. for that you will need to do some solid research, as many of the mythical 'gods' are cross-cultural. i would advise you to pick who you think represents the stronger of those who are copied from one culture to another; the weaker one could be a first stage boss, and the stronger a level boss perhaps. That's a heck of a lot of "Angels." I'd have to say the most appalling thing I've seen yet is the "Holy Guillotine" attack. That's just twisted, man. †Caleb† ------------------ |
Steve Member Posts: 46 From: Staten Island ,Ny Registered: 08-10-2002 |
Yeah Well The Guillotine Attack is A Move Used To Kill Demons... I Like It And that's All That Matters. let Me explain The Attack. The Holy Guillotine Attack Is Used With the Scythe. Now I Will Tone Down The Violence Against Humans,But NOT The Demons,Strong Men And False Deitys. Ill Make The Giga Attacks Such As The one Described Above Inaffective To Humans. Keep Tha' Feed Back Comin'Guys

quote: What caused me to raise my eyebrows was "the angel of KINDNESS" who is going to kick butt with a double headed lance and a jump kick attack. Makes me wonder what an angel of UNkindness would do. The other one I found 'interesting' was "the angel of virginity" packing a chakram and rapid magna flare attack. Not exactly instilling images of the Virgin Mary... |
InsanePoet Member Posts: 638 From: Vermont, USA Registered: 03-12-2003 |
It's a metaphor Kindness and Virginity are righteousness. Althought the theme (of amine and such) just isn't my cup of tea, i don't have anything against the weaponry. ------------------ |

quote: Yes, I realize that. It's just that "guillotine of faith", "double headed lance of kindness" and "rapid magna flare of viriginity" don't have quite the same ring. More seriously Steve, you said about the angel of wisdom, "i'm mocking the psychics, not pomoting them". How so? Does not this girl *use* psychic powers? |
InsanePoet Member Posts: 638 From: Vermont, USA Registered: 03-12-2003 |
Yeah, BrianT, i see what you are saying, his design is less classical, i suppose it's the anime thing. And if it were me designing a game, it would be different -Most of them would be guys. -More traditional weapons, such as swords. But it's not my game, so, who am i to say I thought you were saying it was wrong from a Biblical perspective. ------------------ |
Briant Member Posts: 742 From: Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada Registered: 01-20-2001 |
My point was not that metaphors are wrong, but that those seemed like strange metaphors to associate with kindness and virginity. More common metaphors for these things are, well, less violent. |

We're not mocking the Lord of the Rings, are we now? From what I read in the Bible, Spiritual Warfare is hardcore. Sword of the Spirit, is, in my view, on massive peace of demon-slicing steel. Oh, and don't forget Legolas's Bow of Peace. Or his Twin blades of Forgiviness. ------------------ |
Briant Member Posts: 742 From: Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada Registered: 01-20-2001 |
No, not making fun of LOTR (well, maybe a little bit) Side note, more serious: in Eph 6, the "sword of the Spirit" (ie. the word of God) is the only offensive (weapon) item. Everything else mentioned (shield of faith, helmet of salvation, etc.) are all defensive (protection) items. Mull that over for a minute or two. |
InsanePoet Member Posts: 638 From: Vermont, USA Registered: 03-12-2003 |
They are all equipment of war. The point of these verses is to arm ourselves for the uncoming battle. ------------------ |
ArchAngel Member Posts: 3450 From: SV, CA, USA Registered: 01-29-2002 |
Maybe.. yes, true, the sword of the spirit is the only offensive weapon. But you wonder, the Bible doesn't actually say that it is the only offensive weapon. It's something we assume(and hey, it's not far out, either) Maybe the Shield of Faith could be used as offensive. (imagine spikes or a bladed edge) I don't know. It's cool to think about, and it sorta fits in. Many times armor can be used as weaponry. Just bringing it up, not arguing or anything. Then, yeah, the Bible does talk about each armor's uses. We'll all find out when we die, eh? :d And I agree with InsanePoet. ------------------ |
