Registration Underway For 2003 Christian Game Developers Conference

Intel, Hewlett Packard representatives among those to speak
at annual meeting of industry leaders

PORTLAND, OREGON (10 April 2003) – Building on last year’s success and
the continued growth of the industry, the 2003 Christian Game Developers
Conference will feature a group of speakers representing every facet of
the gaming industry. Registration is now underway for the conference,
which will be held July 25-27 on the campus of Cascade College in
Portland, OR.

“Last year’s conference proved that there is real interest in an
industry gathering devoted to Christian games,” said conference
organizer Tim Emmerich of GraceWorks Interactive
(http://www.graceworksinteractive.com). “This year, we will focus on how
best to address the needs of Christian game developers for the future.”

Among the speakers at this summer’s conference are Kevin Johnson of
Intel (http://www.intel.com) and Frank Cloutier of Hewlett Packard
(http://www.hp.com), as well as Ralph Bagley of N’Lighting Software
(http://www.n-lightning.com) and representatives from the independent
game development community.

“This year’s conference will revisit last year’s topics as well as
others,” Emmerich said. “We will discuss the goals of Christian gaming
and what sort of content we hope to provide, and how to fund projects
and publish them. We also plan to examine the games that are on the
market now to see where they have succeeded and why they might fail.”

Christian gaming fills an important need in the $10 billion per year
electronic gaming industry: “Many families want non-violent
entertainment alternatives. They are looking for action titles with
wholesome messages,” Emmerich said. Last year’s conference - sponsored
in part by Nvidia and N’Lightning Software - gathered industry leaders
from across the U.S. to discuss strategies for appealing to this growing
market. Developers from as far away as Great Britain and Africa have
shown interest in attending this year’s event.

“Depending on the developer, a game can share the Gospel Message, or
just equip the game player with better social skills or even educate
them on various topics. Christian games are important to our society
today as they can minister to the players.”

With the constant advances in technology, Christian developers are able
to target games to a specific audience without having to rely on a large
publisher and risk diluting the message of their product. Organizers of
this year’s conference hope to encourage developers to “take advantage
of their God-given skills and technologies to develop their project,”
Emmerich said.

“We pray that we can be encouragement to developers and teams of all
sizes, whether they’re currently working on a Christian gaming title or
planning future projects.”

Conference registration information - including the full roster of
speakers and events as well as travel and lodging options - is available
online at http://www.cgdc.org .

Interviews with Tim Emmerich of GraceWorks Interactive may be arranged
by e-mailing hugh@cyprmedia.com or phoning 740 / 239-0901.

Okay - everyone that wants to see Mack there, let's load up in a big car, drive to Canada and kidnap him!

FYI, there are 40 registered so far.

Also, some good news (and I need to send an EMail out to this), we have some goodies to use as scholarships for smaller teams! And may do a Game of the Year thing! Ahh, too much to do... can someone rag on Mack for me for not coming, I have to get busy!! ;-)

We'll miss you Mack.

Before I leave, another target ... well Krylar, 'fess up, have you even checked ticket prices!?!? ;-) I need another volunteer to hound Krylar!! :-)

He he, all in good fun.

God bless you both.

HAHA! yeah, we'll just roll up and snag him.
Wanna do it gangsta style or professional mercenary?
Then again, I can't go either. Should I be expecting a visit too?

Peace Out!

Sounds like "Tim"s have the best humor! ;-)

Let's do it mafia style, the ride in the trunk might do all of you some good. Now if I just had a cousin named "guido".

Be praying - maybe the Lord will provide the path to the conference.

I'll work on the scholarship invites.

Oh, Heavenbound is shipping - see EmeraldStudios.com

Well Tim, hopefully I will be living near you this year. So I will probly be there every year. I know im not really working on any games currently but I havent slacked off on my story telling. Maybe someone there will pick me up as a writer? I e-mailed you and never got a reply? Did I hack you off or something?

It is really good to hear that more people are going this year. At last the big companies seem to be taking violence in games seriously.

Well, for a good game there needs to be a conflict of some type, and for most game genres that includes some level of violence. I think it is really the overwhelming tide of games that are becoming more and more vicious in their portrayal of what is just a game. I mean, even here most of the games being made do have violence even if it is usally a case of "whack the evil demon".

Angel - good to hear from you.
I think I remember seeing your Email, but I'm "Swimming" in Email and will be until the conference is over. I'll try to find it and respond by this weekend.

Your dad is volunteering to help!

God bless,
Tim

Yah dad told me about it. I think I mentioned that in the e-mail that I sent you but cant really remmember at the momment. Basicly all that was in it was qustions about whats going on, how your kids are doing, stuff about the confrence, and other whatnots. I think thats the short of it. Oh BTW your pic looks nothing like what I thought you would look like. The one on your web page. You look so young. Just like me, babyfaced.

Lol! I'm a babyface! ;-) Well, I am older than I look. And I have the beard that I think Matt called cheesy.

I'll have to dig for your Email. We are mostly fine, kids are growing.

Please be praying for the conference.

What-what-what!?!? CHEEZY? Say it ain't so. I have a beard too. My little girl gets a kick out of every bearded person we know. Like the Rev. across the street (who also married my wife and I). His son in law who is a missionary in africa and linquist has a beard. His son in Gurmany has one and his missionary son in Mexico has one as well. Beards are cool! If someone wants to look like a pop-star thats their thing. I would rather look like Moses or Paul. Anyways I think I've ragged enough on the non-bearded folk.

Thanks for the semi-answers Tim.

"Well, for a good game there needs to be a conflict of some type, and for most game genres that includes some level of violence."

I agree that games in general are getting more violent. My son enjoys playing the demo disks on the front of magazines. Just lately, however, I have had to guide him into not playing more and more demos. Don't get me wrong, I have always had to guide him, but now I have to guide him more frequently.

I think that when the first Christian game hits the big time, it will be a benchmark for the games industry. They will realise that a game doesn't have to be violent to sell. At the moment, most games are bought by males between the age of 14-35. These violent games in general don't apeal to females or the Pacman generation. They want fun and not to be traumatised.
