Hey everybody. I'm involved in World Vision's 30 hour famine, and I'm trying to raise money for the hungry peoples in countries less fortunate than our own. If you have some spare money, even just 2 bucks, please donate. my code is JKAR1000. You can also just donate directly to 30HF if you like. Either way it goes straight to World Vision. Thanks for your help. God bless MaxX |

I respect what you're trying to do, but did you know that World Vision will only feed people who attend their church ? We have assemblies in Africa, and World Vision puts pressure on our people to leave our church to attend theirs, in so far as they can get food, if they stop attending our church. |

I've spent a lot of time trying to find a non-religious aid organisation and I can't. Which I guess means it's only the Christians who are at least doing *something*, even if I don't agree with some of their methods. Regarding your credit card, if it's a VISA, don't worry. I've been in the situation of my card being charged with stuff I did not buy ( on a regular basis ) and the onus is on the person charging to prove that they have a valid right to, otherwise the company just gives the money back to you. I am still careful of who gets my details, but how is a web site any different to giving your card to someone at a restaurant ? I judge by thinking about who is asking. I'd give Amazon my details ( I have ), because they have too much to lose. A geocities page that wants to sell me something, I'd use Paypal, they have nothing to lose if I tell people they ripped me off. |

Given that RCI is generally considered a cult (whether you agree or not), I don't think that WorldVision encouraging people to leave RCI Assemblies is completely unreasonable, though trying to blackmail them with food would be very unchristian, if true.

might be, though there are a lot of non-catholic churches that have much in common with catholism. but this is beside the point, sorta. ------------------ |

There's no credit cards. They send you a bill in the mail I believe (which you could pay by check). So far I have collected 5 bucks. woooott..... As far as I know they do nothing of that sort christian. They have people there that are setting up wells and giving humanitarian aid regardless of people's religion. If they required people to go to their church, there wouldn't be too many people getting help in some of the countries they're in. Now someone please stop arguing here and go donate. I didn't make this thread so you all could bicker about humanitarian services and not even pay attention to what I said. |

ArchAngel, I've met the Africans from our assembly, and spoken to them. They could be lying, but I choose to believe them. Rowan: why did our conversation disappear the way it did ? In any case, I don't think a handful of people with books to sell constitutes a majority, just a vocal minority. We've discussed all this in the past, and I think it irrelevant, even if it was true ( which it plainly is not ). Either way, if I give aid, I expect it to go to anyone in need, not just people who attend a particular church. |

Christian: Just finished my final year exams at university. Hoping to get a PHD studentship so I gotta get some some good marks, and so I took some time off CCN, and the internet in general to concentrate on my studies. |

Fair enough, you just never told me. I wrote to you, and never got any reply. I hope it all went well for you. I seem to recall you were doing some pretty cool stuff. |

before you dis world vision, go for a trip to some of the places where they are working.. they don't just feed their own christians, but feed communities of non-christians, and christians of various denominations... i don't doubt the truth of what your african friends say, but i understand the context.. lets say i was in such an aid organisation, and i was giving aid to say muslims , i would try to love them like Jesus, but also share the gospel, if some converted i'd suggest a variety of churches they could be a part of including my own.. but if they didn't convert, well i'll continue to feed them and to love them.. if i came accross other christians in need , i'd try to love them as christ does, feeding and sharing with them.. also i could have brotherly fellowship with them - i wouldn't try to get them to leave their church, or fellowship to come to mine, nor would i blackmail them.. If i came across some mormons, professing to be christians, and they were open to the gospel, i would encourage them to leave their church, and join one with sound doctrine where Jesus is Lord, and i'd even use my church as an option for them.. Karl but for the guy doing the 30 Hour famine, good on you man.. Don't be discouraged and pulled down by this thread.. B.t.w in New Zealand, its the 40 hour famine ------------------ |

quote: I agree, I'd do the same, and that is apparently not what is happening in the one case I am aware of. I wouldn't go so far as to say it happens that way all the time, how could I know that ? But knowing it has happened is reason enough for me to not support them. But I also agree, the guy who started the thread is to be admired, more power to him, and I hope it goes well. |

And also I wonder about the world vision thing, that it might be just that one part of it, and not World Vision in whole. Yes, and Good job on the famine too! ------------------ |
