the old 1987 dungeon master is now available on internet for download

http://dmweb.free.fr is the site holding the legendary code BUT there's more, yes more!

Not only has the original game been set up for PCs, but ALSO the download includes a LEVEL EDITOR

wow this is so awesome, I have spent the last month SOLID putting together a dungeon so huge, it actually approaches the size of the original game, WICKED!

the thing is, is anybody willing to HOST the 8MB of files that "run" the chiefydungeon ?

I'm looking for somebody to host the game for 1 month please

in the 8MB is everything, the level editor, the chiefydungeon, the original dungeon master and it's sequel Chaos Strikes Back

Geez, a dungeon?

I guess I could, although I was hoping to get one of my own projects on first.

I'm not too fond of dungeon-type games, though - not very christian IMO. Seeing as you're christian, yours would probably be less questianable.

Never played Dungeon Master before. Will have to take it for a spin.

dmweb.free.fr seems to be down.

First off, if I host it, you'll be at www.cobraa1.com/~myname - you'll have to select a name, and we should probably work out the details by Email. Contact me at jeremiah_moss@cobraa1.com if you're interested.

*plays original DM*

Oh geez, I have to use a spell to light up the staircase? Heh, your dungeon requires the player to have already played the original DM, I see. No wonder I wasn't getting anywhere!

Jeremiah my friend, BOY you downloaded that fast TOP MAN

as you are such a great fella and you raised the question of light, I'll tell you a secret undisclosed to anybody

seriously, this has not been written down anywhere or passed on elsewhere

well it's only a little secret I guess BUT as the first wall "opens" to allow you access to the staircase, do not turn left to go down it

instead carry on walking! yes, you see a wall but it isn't a wall, it's FAKE

go there, you will find a shiny helmet and a super flaming torch to light your way, good luck Jeremiah, your journey has only just begun

anybody else give the chiefyDUNGEON a try ?

Got broadband here . That's nothing - some people who were selling a game called Enemy Nations decided to give their game away for free - I guess it wasn't turning a profit, so I decided to give it a spin - we're talking 306 MB! Took several hours because they limited their bandwidth - so I just let it go overnight .

You won't believe what punishment I've dished on this puny little cable modem .

NOW YOU'RE TALKING

find the folder marked "EDITING" in amongst all the others in your 2MB download, all instructions are therein, but to summarise:
your download contains FULL DM games e.g DungeonMaster, Chaos strikesBack

you will also see
TheOrange
TheZoo
TheGhost

these are not full games, they are very short 'EXAMPLES'

by looking at the examples' code - you can see how they were put together, for instance the map for 'TheOrange' is

11

this represents a dungeon room 20' wide by 10' deep

that's it! That's 'TheOrange' dungeon

it is purposely simple, to SHOW YOU how dungeon editing is done CHECK IT OUT MATIES

brilliant fun for definite

After I edit it, do I have to compile it somehow?

sheesh Jeremiah, did you read the instructions in that editing folder or what? ok, you have to insert a specific line into the compile folder, stating the name of your dungeon e.g "CobraA1dungeon," the program will then compile your .txt into an .exe, provided that you have no critical errors

if you do have critical errors the program will nevertheless go on to run your dungeon, allowing you to explore it and literally "see" the problem, but when you come out, there will be no .exe, as there would be if the errors were 0

give me 12 hours I'll e-mail you the exact info you're after, ok? (can't get to the computer at the moment )

BTW, the Java version looks interesting. GUI map editor, and open source. Seems to have its own format for maps, though. I imagine it's probably possible to modify it to use RTC maps.

What no directx?? No multiplayer??

ahhh, those were the days, echo off, config.sys, autoexec.bat, emm386.exe, loadhigh, devicehigh, noems, dos=high, do these terms make any sense to you? Sends more of a shiver down my spine than any dungeon game could

Sorry, but I didn't quite get the download instructions? Can I download it all (including the Chiefy dungeon) from one source now?

Thanks.

Yes, the DOS days - I created a boot disk where I could select what game I wanted to play from the menu in config.sys on a floppy .

Batch files were really my first exposure to any type of programming .

King's Quest, anybody?

Follow Chiefy's link, it leads to another forum. His first post contains both links and instructions for getting his dungeon. It's divided into two parts - the game, and his dungeon.

You might want to play the origional dungeon master dungeon first, though.

Cobra... When i try to download enemy nations it says it cannot find the page. they say that they are limited to 5 connections, so is that what it does when it's busy? Or is the file really not there?

Yup, you're probably hitting their limit. I had to try several times before I was able to download it. It may be hours before another slot opens - it IS about a 6-hour download.

Search for enations or enations.rar on your local gnutella client - I've got it shared. I've also got the manual shared as "enations manual.pdf" (without the quotes).

If you're using a client that can connect to gnutella 2, then I've added some metadata to help make searching easier. Enations is a Game, and the manual is a Book.
