I've beta tested the game somewhat, and it should work on most machines.

There are 12 unique levels with increasing difficulty with this Breakout clone, although I do give you a break every now and then. Check the Action section of this site to find and download the game. All comments are welcome.

The game uses DirectX 8.1b, so I hope it works for everyone. Good luck. I'll post some screenshots soon.

I probably won't revisit this project for some time, so it's presented as is. I'm currently about to begin work on a side scroller type game with a few friends. My goal is to make it to where someone can create a "game" file and will be able to use editors to create their own side scrollers. We'll see how it goes.

All comments on Breakage are welcome. Just bear in mind it's my first full game. I don't expect it to be perfect, but I will be pushing forward trying to be a better game programmer and would like comments to keep in mind for future games.

Hmm... I'm running Windows 2000 Pro. I got this error when trying to run both Breakout16.exe & Breakout.exe

Breakout v1.0: Breakout.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00456e23" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

I tested it on Win 2k Pro first. I have a 64 Meg ATI card though.

What version of DirectX are you running? I tested it on DirectX 8.1b which was the latest at the time.

What kind of Vid card do you have?

If it dies right off the bat, you may have a problem with image surfaces, which is what the game uses. Oh well, please keep me posted.

I have a 64 MB GeForce 3 and am running DX 8 (I don't know if it's 8.1b... I'll try upgrading).

There were some big changes in some of the commands between DirectX 8.0 and DirectX 8.1. I'd make sure you had the latest to be sure.

I checked out the first two levels, pretty neat, only had a problem with the ying/yang symbol in the second level as the paddle ball. Going to see if I can advance through some more levels and see what it's like.
