I'm working on a game that'll be marketed as shareware in the near future... It's not so much a "Christian" game in that it doesn't tell people about Jesus, but it's certainly done by a Christian Coder, with a Christian heart, who is trying to do it with excellence, which is what I believe the Kingdom of God is all about. Having said that....

It's not finished -- no sound effects, no music... the graphics may or may not stay as they are... There are still one or two quirks in the gameplay... but it's coming together, and I'm getting to the point where I'd like to get some feedback from people (besides my family as to how it runs on people's systems and how they like the gameplay. (i.e. does it run well and is it fun?)

The url is: http://www.unseenthings.com/game/

Please be honest

Thanks,
Greg

That link does not seem compatible with the Opera browser

Sorry... I should've mentioned...

It's written in Director, so it requires that you have (or install) the Shockwave plugin from http://www.macromedia.com (which is probably why it doesn't work in Opera and won't work on unix systems.

Krikey! it's like Tetris on LSD!!!
It's great fun, but it's easy to rack up points on Hard skill by random clicking (random isn't a good choice of words, but that's in essence what I was doing heheh)

I will have bad dreams of colored geometric shapes falling on me tonight (j/k)

It is very fun and addictive to play, and it's quite simple. I like it

Thanks for the comments!

Any suggestions on how I could make it better? (besides adding some sound effects and music

I'm still working on the scoring system... it's still not quite where I want it to be... I've tried lots of things... the first scoring system I used... well, when I got 43 million points for one thing, I knew I needed to change it... But you get more points on medium than you do on easy, and you get more points on hard than you do on medium. Also, the faster you click, the faster the game goes -- for every x groups you click, another row drops. I may instill a penalty for clicking random blocks that aren't connected... haven't decided yet. Thanks for the feedback, though.

You guys don't think the graphics are cheese? Is the sunflower background good? Should I have that and other scenic pictures in the background, as opposed to a "game theme" with game graphics? The main reason I chose the shape of the objects is because I've recently been enlightened to the plight of colorblind people who cannot play a lot of common shareware/web games because they're based on matching things solely on color... this way, even if you've got a monochrome monitor, you could still match the shapes pretty easily.

I took the picture of the sunflowers with my digital camera at my brother-in-law's parent's farm in Louisiana. I've had several inquiries about it and if anyone wants to make it their wallpaper for a little while, go to http://www.unseenthings.com/backgrounds/ and you can find it in 4 common resolutions... later I'll probably add more pictures and some thumbnails and a "formal" page... but hey, we're all friends right?

Thanks -- and again, any more suggestions???????? I'm trying to make this game with utter excellence, so any feedback is valued and appreciated.

Okay, no criticism here, but the first two things I thought of when I saw it were "sleek" and "professional." The graphics just look good. And the high resolution of the picture and the graphics lend to that sleek look. All around good work.

How about a picture of a cow on one level?

Oh come on gang, I know I'm not the only one who made the word association! heheheh

Moooo. I got it, but at least his spelling was good (udder versus utter). Moooo.

Enjoyed the game somewhat although these aren't necessarily my favorite types. So, I'm ignorant, how different are you from "Bejeweled"?

As you add music and sound, be sure to have check-boxes to turn them back off!

A picture of a cow would be in udderly bad taste, me thinks.

Anyway... thanks for the feedback.

Bejeweled is different in that it starts with a full screen and you swap 2 gems at a time to line up 3 in a row horizontally or vertically. When you do, the screen fills up again. It stops, often times at random, because there are no moves left.

My game, the concept is simple. 2 or more colors/shapes together, and you click on one of them for them all to disappear. The rows drop from the ceiling and as soon as they hit something, the whole row stops. When you click a group, everything drops down until it hits something again. This leaves some blocks hanging in the air (hence, the name, Suspended Blocks -- I was getting too many questions about whether or not that was supposed to happen -- Yes! It is!) and on you go. You have bombs which blow up some blocks, and mystery bombs (which have the question mark on them) which could do something good for you (from blowing up all of a certain color to clearing the screen to giving 2x points for the rest of the round) or maybe something bad (like drop some more rows).

There are a lot of "block" type puzzle games out there... they're all really variations on Tetris and Columns, I think.. but I think mine is different enough that it'll be a success. My next game probably won't be a falling block puzzle type game like this one. It'll probably still be a puzzle game, because there really seems to be a big market for these kinds of games that're well done (which isn't catered to by CompUSA and BestBuy, etc... unless you want 100 cheapo not-real-great games for $5) so that's where I'm aiming at. It'll be marketed as shareware, hopefully by a publisher and myself... But we'll see. Just myself is fine, too.

Anyway...
Thanks again for the feedback (and compliments) -- feel free to play away That url will probably stay the same as I continue to test and work on it and hopefully get it done by the end of this month.

For those interested, I've updated it again. I changed the background from the sunflowers to a lake with some trees and ducks...

I'd be interested to know if people like this one better, or don't like the "picture as a background" idea at all and think it should have a "game screen" background in there instead...

I updated quite a few things, but probably the main changes were:
Now if you click and it's not a group, you lose 1000 points
The mystery bombs (look for the ?) can do one of several things, which may be good, and may not be good

Thanks again for all the feedback.

I think the game is really cool. I wished that I could make rows diagonally though. :0)

I like the game, addictive gameplay because of the random but frequent reward of seeing a large amount of blocks get removed. I rember my first tetris game for the mac you could by pressing a key change the background. Could you check the rap around block removal function it didn't seem to be working right and I haven't seen the white avalanch blocks yet.
