Hey, thought I would just add that I love it how you show the statistics on downloads from the showcase.
I love it.
Great idea.

Krylar! The changes are awesome. The showcase idea is excellent, and once it starts to fill up it could easily be the best Christian software archive on the internet, and not just a place for "coders" but for all users interested in Christian software. You may eventually want to move it in that direction and get a new domain name to point at it, it could be huge like a Christian version of download.com or something!

How are you doing these changes? I assume cgi for the most part, but what are you using to code the cgi? Perl or C/C++ or something else? The reason I ask is because I'm going to be needing some cgi scripts on my site and I'm a cgi n00b. I'd also like to add a discussion board - what did you pay for infopop and what's involved in setting it up?

If you have your own webserver, you can use one of the numerous free open-source bulletin boards out there. My fave is phpBB, it looks great and it's free!!

Hey D-SIPL (What does that mean, anyway?)

I will have my own cgi-bin directory, with the ability to add my own custom cgi stuff. Is this what you mean by my own web server? My site will be hosted with a hosting company.

Hey Krylar, cool changes but I'd like to report one error. It's about the showcase thing. When you tell it to list the showcases by rating, then for some reason it lists the last person who voted in the place where it's supposed to tell who the author of the program is.

Otherwise it's great though!

Glad you all like the changes! Please submit to the Showcase if you have something...or just vote and participate in the comments

Answers to questions:

1) I use Perl for the backend stuff. Perl's not as fast as PHP, or so I'm told...think you can compile PHP, but I'm more comfy it so far. I am learning PHP though and it's VERY C-Like (but so is Perl). Plus, I've heard that people have had a lot of problems with MySQL and I've seen a lot of issues first-hand on websites that run it.

2) I'm using UBB and it ran me $250. I looked around for solutions on the net and found some good stuff, but I kinda like the layout of UBB and such. Plus I'm getting pretty good at hacking it

3) Since you're already a programmer, grab the book called "Perl Core Language - Little Black Book" by Holzner. A great PHP/MySQL book is "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Welling and Thomson. (to help support the CCN, you could order them here <hint hint>!)

4) GREAT FIND on that rating bug...never saw it. Was a goofy programming bug too <sigh>. Oh well, fixed! Thanks

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Krylar, I just ordered the Perl book using the link you provided, so hopefully you'll get a commission off the sale.
