It takes a while for the engine to find it. You also should have Google search to domain itself (eg: site:mydomain.com spade86) to see if they've sent a spider to your site yet.

Fastest way to get recognized is to set bait for spiders. The spiders find the bait and link the web to your site. Gives ya the creeps, eh?

i.e. Post a link here and there at highish ranking sites and the search engines will follooow the link and make note of your site in their listings.

Some good advice, but be carefull on just linking from anywhere. If your site is not related to the linked site, you will not get linked. The best place to look first is google sitemaps. Get a site map.

Then to ensure that you site is looked at frequently, make sure that you have a robots.txt file. Then finaly make sure you are not using a defualt 404 and 403 error pages.

If you want some examples google 2 hour game. Our site poped up in about 30 hours in the top 5 of about 109,000,000, becuase we use these dynamic. Yahoo will tend to be much slower in doing anything. Yahoo will cache your page every day or so, but wont list it for ever

Now here's something funny, MSN will get your page about the same rate as yahoo, UNLESS you use microsoft keywords, such as windows, 98SE, etc, OR you use other terms like Linux, unix.

Part 1 of getting your site listed. Hope this helps

Also be care of toying too much with pagerank. Google can sometimes black list your site.

In my experience, a normal site ramp up (without tactics) takes about 3-6 months.
