has anyone here used bluefish before?(http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html)
i would like to try it out, but unfortunatly i don't have linux on any of my comps, so that could be a problem. right now i'm looking for free alternatives to macromedia studio products so i can begin making some money(if God be willing). anyway, if any body has used it before let me know.

Looks neat, I'll have to try it out.

Atm I'm trying to get Eclipse up and running on my Ubuntu...It takes some doing to get it up in Windows and Ubuntu, with my unfamiliarity with Linux still, seems to be even tougher, especially when you are wanting things like Python or C(++) to work. Bluefish looks pretty easy.

Though, I think Eclipse probably passes Bluefish in terms of total functionality and options. Eclipse is more than just an editor.

This one is good: screem. But I think it's linux only at the moment. Maybe this links page has something for windows?

linux only is not going to be a problem for me for long. my windows xp crashed do to my overclocking and running farcry. blue screen of death, and now all i can get is safe mode. so i'm taking my unstable 6gb hd out, and setting up my 20gb master, and possibly another 20gb hd as slave. then dual booting xp and linux(prob'ly fedora). then taking the 6 gb and adding it to a 400mhz celeron i have. prob'ly dual booting 2000 and linux. then no hard drive in my 500mhz pIII, and set it up to run geexbox and be my dvd player. anyway...sorry to go off topic. guess i'll check out some of those links.

I tried out bluefish very briefly when I had a Linux machine; I ended up using Screem for my development.

However, having recently got a Mac (!), I have switched to Smultron, an open-source Mac app, which has done pretty well for me so far. My favorite part of Smultron is using it to open files via Cyberduck (a Mac FTP client), and being able to just save the file, and Cyberduck automagically uploads it! And it's completely unobtrusive, unlike Dreamweaver MX '04.

i'm trying to find all my operating system cds, i have them all in one small case and i can't find them. so i can't re-install xp, or put 2000 on the celeron. i need to get a linux box set up, then play around with some of them.

I use beautiful CrimsonEditor along with WAMP5. CrimsonEditor is for all my coding (i do HTML, PHP + MySQL, and CSS (maybe javascript soon?)).

I then out put it all to the www directory of WAMP5. (Wamp5 stands for Windows, Apache,MySQL,PHP5) What it does is emulate not ONLY a Apache server, but also a MySQL database on your system along with running php scripts.
AMAZING program! (sorry, not trying to advertise, just letting you guys know of what's out there) Pretty much is what got me into PHP.
Hope you guys find either of them useful!

God Bless!

I use Crimson Editor when I'm programming in Python in Windows. It's very nice.
