I am actually still working on it. I need some designers for stats, and ext for the game. Basically at this point you will just design different races/species, and lightsaber/force forms which will modify the statistics of the player. I aim to try to make this as balanced as possible. I hope to have a design doc up soon. Note that the design doc may have some things that will be edited out, like some encounters, and features. ------------------ [This message has been edited by mene-mene (edited September 24, 2007).] |

Hey mene-mene, You have a pretty good start there with your Design Doc. I do have 1 question though... Do you have any ethical, moral or legal reasons NOT to use the Star Wars franchise without consent from LucasArts? Just curious... |

Primarily because 1. from what I've heard they take a LONG time to respond, second, I know of more than one games, that likely never contacted LucasArts. And lastly because I don't own Star Wars, and I'm not making any money. ------------------ |

quote: Well, they're a large company and it could take time to get back to someone.
quote: Besides little fan-boy flash games, I can't think of any.
quote: I know you don't own Star Wars and will not be making any money (as you stated this will be a free download) but do you think you could open yourself up to attack by LucasArts by using their franchise? I can see it may not really matter to them if it's just a hobby game that you make for you and your friends but if you put it out on the web and you get 10,000 downloads...they may come for you with copyright infringement, even if you don't make money from it. I'm not tryin' to say "don't make a SW game" I'm just saying to tread carefully if you really get something going |

Just create your own space universe, it's fictional so do whatever you want (except of course a duplicate of Star Wars, with just changing the names). I'm actually surprised you haven't come up with your own universe and that you have kept with the Star Wars theme for this long. BTW, they most likely didn't reply to the guy from 2006 because the have a good human resource crew who weed out the spam. ------------------ |

there is a game, "star wars: the battle of endor", that is obviously based on star wars and uses star wars trademarks and vehicles and characters. it is distributed for free. it has a simple "all starwars trademarks are property of lucasfilm ltd." in the readme. so i think it's probably fine to make a sw game without lucasfilm's express written consent or whatever, as long as you acknowledge the trademarks are theirs. ------------------ |

I'm with dartman on this one. Making your own universe is one of the great parts of making a game. ------------------ |

I kind of agree with you arch/Dart, but I'm not sure where to start, and its unfamiliar territory. In SW, I know where, and what everything is. ------------------ |

I have to agree with the others. Don't copy or use someone else's ideas. Come up with your own. Personally, I hate fan games. Use your imagination. Yes, it's uncharted territory, but that's what makes it fun! Take a few days to a few weeks just thinking about a story and the characters who make up the story as well as some locations. It doesn't even have to be in game form (level design, script, etc.). Just be sure a write down your idea's. It's easy to forget them when the idea's start flowing in at a rapid pace. ------------------ |
