i'll repeat the subject: my xbox won't play games or movies!! it was working fine for about 3-4 months, and now whenever i put a game or movie in, it says "xbox can't recognize this disk. make sure it is a game disk, dvd movie, or blah blah blah." (it doesn't actually say "blah blah blah.") my brother locked up the parental controls, but he says it was a while ago when he did it. does anyone know what could be wrong, and if so, how to fix it? thx.

I'd give Microsoft tech help a call if you haven't already. If it's still under warranty they should be able to do service work on it for you.

Yeah if it is saying it can't read it you have a drive problem and MS should be able to replace it if it is less than 3 years old (which it has to be hehe) so you should be covered as long as you didn't mod the case of the system.

well actually it was a hand-me-down and it was made in '03 so it's probably not under warranty. but thx anyway
p.s. can you (meaning me) still get support for the 'box even if it is out of warranty?

Oh I thought you were talking about a 360---if it is just a norm Xbox you might be out of luck---MS has stopped doing ANYTHING with the original Xbox--they don't make them anymore and don't license games for them anymore---you can certainly try calling them, although I would bet they would try toget you to buy a 360 since that is all they do now.

--UPDATE--
my bro unlocked the parental controls (by trying random codes), but it still won't play. could the problem be that it's just the disk drive that's broken? cuz then we would just have to perform a sweet hardware hack (pretty sure that's the right word) and replace the disk drive. or is there a way to reset it so that it like needs to have the time set and everything? plz reply if you know anything
