Iam currently working on a game Legends of Heldron but you can just call it LoH as a shortcut and I'm having a bit of a trouble making this game since nobody else bothers to help me make my game and I have to do everything. I really need scripters because I suck at scripting and I need more people to apply as one of the jobs below. You can also have more than one job if you can handle it: Co-Owner If you want to apply as one of the jobs above then go to my website also here are some screenshots I made so far with my mapping skills. http://www.freewebs.com/heldron/

You have some good art. If I were interested, why would I choose to help on your game as opposed to some other game. What is the game's special values. Is it moral, is it Christian? What will convince me to want to join you? Is this a paying position? ------------------ |

yes, that is Visual Basic. What kind of help are you looking for in a scripter/lead scripter? What kind of help are you looking for in a Website Developer? I do both as my full-time job (programmer and webdesign). [This message has been edited by mastallama (edited August 05, 2007).] |

Welcome to CCN Your graphics look really cool. I would suggest asking again after the competition, you might still find available people now, but you'll find even more after the Speed Game Competition. |

Also you have to keep on telling me what scripts you updated and I don't really care what scripts you put in and also if there's something wrong with the download just tell me because this is just the first time I'm making an actual game with finally another staff. If there's a script that I want deleted like if I don't want that script I'll just tell you to delete it and if you worked hard for that script just tell me because I'm just going to keep it if you did. ------------------ |

Hey, First of all, welcome! Now I don't want to sound like I'm trying to rain on your parade here, but it sounds like (I may be wrong) that this entire game is made with RPG maker, which is a fine way to start if you're interested in level design. However, if you're interested in making your own game, making a game in with an RPG maker will A) not really be your game and B) really limit you in what you can do. The reason I make this assessment is because I've seen many games made with RPG makers that look very similarly to that. In addition the people with the skillsets you requested covers pretty much every aspect. It would see that if the game was hand-made, that you would have no need of those people. So, here would be my advice if you really want to get into game development either vocationally or for hobby. 1. Develop a "hands and feet" skill: Lots of people want to "write the story" of a game, but honestly, there's only one spot for that position so it's hard to get. What is really helpful is to develop as "hands and feet" skill. What I mean by this is that a skill that every development team needs and needs lots of people to do it. Learn how to do graphic design or programming. Gain a "hands on" skill that everyone needs to increase how valuable you become to a team. 2. Start Small - as the old ventures song is titled, Walk, Don't Run. Start with something basic before moving to greater things. You can't run if you can't walk. On the flip side, once you can walk, don't be afraid to try to run. Now, if you're looking to lead a team, I would suggest the following: 1. Get Organized: A good leader is an organized leader. And an organized leader is one who can take what he's thinking and transcribe it on paper and every team member can then read it and fully understand. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of organization and technical documentation. 2. Manage People: managing people is a task in and of itself. People tend to follow the leader. It's the leader's responsibility to make sure things are getting done properly. Sometimes you need to be a little bit pushy, but not in a mean and condescending way. Management is a career in and of itself, I cannot fully describe it in this post. But some key points are. 1. Ability Assessment - Assess the abilities of members on your team 2. Task Delegation - Delegate tasks to team members according to their abilities. 3. Don't instantly accept work people do. If the work is a bit subpar or lacking in anyway. Don't say "It's great!" and accepting the work they did because you feel obliged to because they volunteered. Encourage them to improve. Don't be like "It sucks, do it again", be like "This is good, but..." 4. Push people out of their comfort zones... and manage the chaos that ensues - People will often be unsure of what they can really achieve and often afraid to try new and harder things. Push people outside of those comfort zones and encourage them to push the limits of their abilities. Things might get a bit hairy, but a good leader can handle it. 5. Be optimistic, Be optimistic, but not ignorant. Always assess the real situation and don't let your optimism be founded in ignorant bliss. But as the leader, you are responsible for the mood of the project. If you are pessimistic, everyone else will be and your project will fail. 5. Be Knowledgeable, this can be the hardest part, but on a development team you have graphic artists, musicians, programmers, sound engineers etc. You have a wide variety of skillsets to work with. It's very difficult to work with coders if you don't know any code. You don't have to be brilliant at all of these but at least knowledgeable enough to communicate. It can also help as in you can fill in the holes that your team members miss. This can relate to the first point of developing "Hands and feet" skills.
This may be all over your head, maybe not. I have no idea who you are, how old you are and where you're at. And I'm not saying all this to rain on your parade, but to try to give you some advice. ------------------ |

quote: Well first of all Legends of Heldron is made of a free 2d mmorpg maker system called X-Realms where thers make their own game with. I know other free 2d mmorpg maker systems such as: Eclipse But I decided X-Realms would be beter so your right about this entire game made of an RPG Maker.

Hello iday, Listen, we really need to talk about your game. I would love to get "in-game" and chat but I can't. You sent me the client and the server and told me to connect to an internal IP address. For an online game like this, you have to have only 1 server running with external IP address. You have some really good stuff here and I would like to be apart of this project. Please, respond to my latest email and let's see what we can get going. Thanks, |
