Update (4.12.2007)

We need an artist to create simple objects and someone to build the maps. Ideally one person would do both. We don't need realistic models and animation (yet). We just need some holdplacers to stuff the maps with something (trees, rocks, buildings).
Since we're using Ogre it will be possible to create models in Google Sketchup and convert them to 'mesh', the model format used by Ogre.

The maps are built using a height map. Basically you'll have to create the heightmap and the texture for it. You'll have to use a program like Terragen or T2 (these are the ones I'm familiar with at least) to create the texture maps.

Hey we need one more programmer for Nanostorm. I've had few post around about it. In a few words it is a RTS game similar to WacraftIII/Starcraft. It will have 3D graphics and multiplayer. We are using C# for programming and probably Irrlicht for rendering(the rendering engine is not yet nailed down).

Not to sound mean or offensive but...
Do you have artists? (both 3D and concept)
Do you have concept art to show for this game?
What size team is currently working on it?
What incentive would a 'fairly good programmer' have to join your group?
Are you still in design phase?
Is this really a serious project or just another "I wanna make a 733t game!"?
What sort of schedule/timeline are you talking about?
Are there any details on this game someone could read?
Is this a casual project or a bigger commitment?
What is the general age for the team? (is it a young or oldish team?)
What is the experiences of other team members?
Is there a team structure?
Do you have anything to show for this project so far?

Just only some of the few questions that come to mind with these sorts of project help postings...

Great points darts, if you don't mind, I'll be adding these to my game design document. (with attribution of course)

I expected/wanted a reply like yours.

The problem is that I've just got in contact with someone that has been working on a RTS which got abandoned after a while (http://www.shoreboundstudios.com/ not much on the site at the moment). I might agree to pick their project but at this stage I'm not sure under what conditions they would let me to do that (i.e if I can bring someone with me).

For the sake of completeness I will answer the questions.

No, I was thinking the art side isn't a priority at this stage. I might have to reconsider that.

So far it's me, Jake (jestermax) and Chris (which you don't know). In addition we also have someone that is giving his feedback on what we're doing.

The experience of working on a promising project.

Yes

That's answered in the first post.

Few months. If the projects goes off the ground we might try a shoot at retail.

Sorry, not more than what I already posted. There is a design but I will not make it public.

What is the experiences of other team members?

I'm 25, Chris is 18, I forgot now how old Jake is.
I've worked on several projects including DreamCity, gFactory, Six Extinction. You know Jake, Chris is good at modeling and scripting.

I'm designer and programmer. Jake does programming. Chris will do scripting and whatever else is needed he can do (i.e modeling).

samw: yeah sure, another good thing to have towards the start of the Design Document is "Why is this game fun?"...

calin: Ah cool, yeah, even just knowing the age of the team makes a big difference. As you might know there are a lot of "I wanna make a 733t game" type posts from mostly kids... Wow, I didn't realize how many projects Jake is working on.

Artists might not sound like a requirement, but you should always have someone lined up, they are illusive creatures when you need them :P hehe

I am not actually offering up my services as I've got a lot on my plate atm. Just wanted to post the usual "more detail please" post which normally comes with such a post such as this...

Wish you the best of luck..

Just what I just said: trees, rocks and some mockup buildings (plus map editing )

what kind of tree were you thinking of? buildings?

also, what file format are you using?

Ideally the tree would fit with the terrain it stands on. I really want one person do the entire environment.
We need more than one rock and more than one tree. You can scale and rotate them to give the impression of diversity but one of each is still not enough.
The model format is 'mesh'.

The format is really not an issue. You can convert to 'mesh' from basically every format.
