Well Folks,

Looks like I am going to have to let go of my project to write a scifi christian mud game. I have tried and tried to get programming help and everyone is either too busy with their own projects or they get on board but the lure of graphic games takes them away. I also guess that since i have been trying to get my mud written for the last 8-10 years with very little success, God is saying "move on. This mud is YOUR idea and not Mine!"

So, I am joining the ranks of the graphics oriented games. God has been gracious and allowed me access to some higher level graphics software so maybe this is where He is calling me. I have recently downloaded the XNA framework and C# 2005 visual studio express and will be learning those now. Hopefully something will happen with these to create a good decent game that God Jehovah would approve of. I also have torque 1.4 and torque game builder if anyone is interested in coding in c++ for those engines. (You would have to buy your own copy of Torque course). I love multiplayer games and really would like to make that format in any game. I will still choose to do a christian scifi type game cause fantasy is just not my bag. Anyone here want to help with a graphics oriented scifi christian type game? Anyone have any ideas for such a game?

Btw, i want to give thanks to Jesus and HanClinto for HanClinto's MITE mud engine. It is a great text game engine and i think anyone wishing to do a text game should check it out. It was just too overwhelming to do my mud by myself due to the fact that i dont know c# very well yet and i work best in a team situation.

But now i am moving on i guess. Graphic games here i come and may Jesus have the glory...

I am so glad that you can leave it behind. Trying to do what doesn't seem to be right would only lead to hardening of heart. And I too have many trashed projects which were nothing more than love of this world, even there has always been the desire to serve Lord.

Graphics huh, that's probably a good choise and of course it is if God is taking you there but I have just these verses for your heart to remember:

1Jo 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

The lust of the eyes is something difficult to strugle with when you want to do God's will by making a video game, it takes deep devotion to keep God's will on first. This is what I try to keep in mind every time I open some graphics program, as for example.

Btw, I have TGE as well so maybe we will be working on some project in one day. Who knows, God does.

May God bless you Bro.

In Christ,
Jari.

Ah, that’s where I started out with my project, it was a personal MUD project I started a few years ago which was written in C. It’s come a long way since then, there should be a video link in the suggestion forums showing a quick demonstration of my game, currently (120x120 thread). No more C though, switched to Blitz Basic and with the use of some middleware. I don’t recommend torque, well unless you are going to use the commercial license, but I guess that’s personal preference.

So are you going to do it as an isometric or first-person?

Often times I wonder if im in gods will or not by persuing game design and stuff. becouse I dont know if its worldy desire or if god has put it on my heart to start a career. but, i know a friend who is very godly and who is a carpenter. why would there be a difference.. something for me to think about.. they love carpentry and I love game design.. why do i think mine is wrong and theres is not.. my stupid brain

I think that is because we sit on chairs because it's useful but playing games isn't typically useful but just killing time.

Sorry to hear your decision. Hopefully you will feel at peace.

Sci-fi is an excellent choice and may draw some interest. Personally, I'd like to do some type of space game. Space. Planets. Or somewhere in-between.

With Torque and TGB, you can do some pretty neat stuff.

Games are just another media out there, we can use this media to send messages of lack of responsibility and doing bad things, though we can also use this media to send some very good messages, godly messages. There's nothing worldy about games, that is the same as saying their's something wordly about books, or paper. It simply is another tool and/or media you can use in many different ways, for good or for bad
