As some of you may or may not know my laptop has been giving me no end of trouble lately. My Dad and I tore it apart (for the fourth time) again tonight, resoldered the power connection, and secured it with a few pieces of cardboard from my dog's treat box (yes, you read that right). However, once we got everything back together, I found that now the laptop has a habit of spontaneously just turning completely off at random intrevals, no shutdown sequence, no nothing, just BEWOOP....nothin'. This seems to be somewhat affected by the power setting on my laptop (power saving mode vs. performance mode) but I can't be sure. If anyone has some insights on what could be causing this or anything at all that might help I'd be very grateful for your help. ~Ereon ------------------ Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently He thought it worth the risk. could be that your battery is failing... possibly monitor your battery level (percentage) and see if you notice it drop fast and then it dies... Just a thought, as I know my battery is now dead (and so always needs the plugged in power supply)... ------------------ |

I tinkered a bit and narrowed it down to something dealing with the power cord. It runs fine when on batteries, even when on full power. I'm going to do a bit more experimenting though first. ------------------ Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently He thought it worth the risk.
