I was browsing online, and i saw this thing about how to use a webcam and Python to create motion detection. So, i figured, wouldn't it be cool to do something like the EyeToy for PS2? So i am going to work on some sort of motion detection game. Unfortunately, it only works with Windows, so i'll have to use Windows while doing it, and those who don't have Windows... lol, won't be able to use it. But i need someone to help. You need to know Python, you need a decent webcam, and you have to have some idea to bring to the table. Thanks for listening!

One of the most fun motion detection games I ever played was one that my little brother bought, it was a Lord of the Rings game, and you got a sword and had to fight orcs and such, it was a hoot, but it made your arm all but fall off after a while.....(it was a very realistic fatigue mechanic though ) I always thought that a motion capture sword fighting game with good graphics would be fun, if you could get it to work right of course, with parrying and such, and if you got it REALLY good it would make for some awesome swordfighting. Just an idea, have fun .

I fear that my knowledge is limited in such a capacity and my assistance would be of little avail outside of the realms of art and ideas. srry.

i don't mind... art and ideas are very welcome. i am gonna need some art to make the game fun... cuz the motion detection is just to control the game, i need to make some small games to go with the motion detection... lol..

you could try to have it control your mouse...that would be cool...at least i think so!

You could be a window washer, where you have to "wipe" the whole webcam area clean by jumping around and trying to wash the whole screen as quickly as possible.

Bullet Dodging.

A game where the player must dodge bullets. (they would move fairly slowly, with the bullet-time trails behind them. Think the speed of those scrolling arcade games where you shoot the oncoming enemies)

As the player progresses through the game, the bullets will come quicker and more frequently. Boss Battle: The boss has some form of machine gun, and fights in an attack pattern. Burst, Move, Burst, Spray (shooting all over the screen).

Whaddya think? (As far as I know, this is an original idea.)

great ideas guys!! Han, i love that idea!! i had the same idea, crazy, but mine wasn't as complicated... i like the boss idea... the progressive speed too!! i'll have to work on both of those.. my dad had a similar idea Benny... but to do it, i'd have to make it recognize a certain color or something.... which i saw a way of doing online... i'll try that...

sorry, i was thinking of something simple to start off with, to get use to using the motion detection stuff. it would be interesting though. although i'm sure the games would be much funner .

well buddboy..you could use it to catch a burglar like this guy -
http://www.grisby.org/burglar.html

or.. and bird flight sim game would be really cool...soar like an eagle with your arms spread out, by tilting you arms you can turn, squat to decend..bring arms in to land or close talons...really cool..could spot and catch prey, or dive for fish. I think it would be peaceful simulating this kind of flight with arm and body motion.

of course, trying to sim a humming bird would be a BAD IDEA!!

coolj the humming bird......"OH NOOOOOO! SPARE ME CRUEL AND MERCILESS GROUND! *SPLAT*" Anyhoo yeah, bad idea, cool idea though coolj, that would make an excellent program. Question is whether Buddboy's motion detection can handle all those complex detections.

great idea coolj!! yup, it could handle that... see the way it works is, it only has certain spots that it detects motion in. it takes snapshots using a Python library, and then uses a another one to feed them to Python/Pygame, and compare them... if it sees motion in the spots, right now all it does is light up that spot... but i can (once i learn enough) connect it to something like he said, like one spot for tilting one way, another for the other way, then one for talons, one for the other stuff he said... that might be a little complicated tho... but i'll consider it as a future project, when i get more experience...

BTW, i have already seen that burglar thing, and was considering that as a side project... lol..

maybe he could keep it simple like this:
...............
..1.........4..
...............
.......7.......
2.............5
...............
...............
..3.........6..
...............
1-7 motion detect boxes

##commands##
not 7:decending/diving
2 and 5(hold) - soar/glide
1,2,3,2,1,2,... and 4,5,6,5,4,5,... - flapping/gaining speed/ascending
1 and 6 - turn right
3 and 4 - turn left
1 and 4(hold) - power dive/attack pray with talons extended
3 and 6(hold) - land/rest

maybe in 2 player game, one could play the eagle, and the other can play a mouse, here's the moves for the mouse:

...............
..1.........4..
...............
.......7.......
2.............5
...............
...............
..3.........6..
...............

##mouse commands##
not 7:duck, maybe he won't see you
1 - wave maybe he's friendly and just wants to play
*any other combination - doesn't really matter! lol!

lol! well, those commands you had for the eagle one seemed a little complicated... i was thinking more of only like 4 or 5 boxes... and just one would do something, not a combination... never know...

hey, my sister and i had an idea of something like stepmania or ddr or dance praise... you could like aim the webcam at your feet and then step on the boxes to dance... never know it might work lol...

True- A flight sim like that might be too complicated, I dont really know what your limitations are with that, but your dance game sounds cool
