Our nonprofit organization is in need of a webmaster/web developer, and I would be happy to have someone here from CC. Part-time (about five hours per week, more or less) and currently this is a volunteer position. This could be a good internship for a college student, or an ongoing volunteer positition for anyone. You can get experience for your resume, but the best part is participating in campaigns and projects that help others to gain freedom.

PHP and Javascript are essential, as is good HTML. Understanding of security is important. CSS is helpful, as are web standards and other scripting and programming languages. Flash is good. And commitment to democracy and human rights is definitely needed.

Our webmaster needs to be very proficient in PHP and have an excellent grasp on security; experience is helpful. My rule of thumb is that the webmaster needs to know more than I do about all this stuff. :-) Duties: maintaining and improving website, adding features (especially an improved content posting system integrated into current site structure), finding or creating solutions for campaign/project needs, advising on technical matters. Any location is okay; you can contact by e-mail and phone.

But if you are really interested in volunteering/internship with a non-profit, and don't have all the above qualifications for webmaster, anyone here feel free to contact me; we can use general volunteers too, and we have some important "tech" tasks on the to-do list including creating content web pages about certain topics, making Flash animations, and perhaps some interactive online features or downloads. (I've even considered games, since I like making games myself. :-) But the web content pages and web assistant are the most pressing areas.)

Non-"tech" position tasks could include (depending on your position and interests) research, reading/watching news, organizing info, writing, art/graphics, grantwriting/funding, answering inquiries, helping to prepare materials for campaigns or publications, field and communications work, etc. (The non-tech positions we especially need now are writer/editor, grantwriting/funding, and general volunteers.) A few hours a week, flexible.

The organization website is chinasupport.net.

If interested, you can post here, e-mail or PM me, or fax to the number listed in the contact section of the website.

Thanks,

Curry

I would like to...but I don't think I can. I am still learning how to use the gimp. But once I get the gimp down, I should rock. Because my html/frontpage skills own.

Oh you program? Awsome! I try to get in a little....I spend most of my time debugging.

If you have good HTML and FrontPage skills, then you could definitely be a web assistant and work on making some content pages, and if you like, use us to practice on the GIMP too!

I've tried the GIMP for making some game pieces and spiffing up a logo, and I like it.

Well, I would like to, but college starts here in 2 days. My Php,Javascript, Html and Css skills are good, but my graphic designing skills could use alittle work. But right now I need to get settled into my classes before I take on anything. Well, if you are still needing help in a week or so, I would be happy to apply for a position if I have the time. Anyways, nice meeting you Curry and GBU.

CWC, the web development position does not include any graphic design, so don't worry about that. It's flexible but it does need a few hours a week on average, so yeah, maybe you should see how your classes go first, and then if you would like to try it, let me know and we'll be happy to hear from you.

En972, thanks, I'll PM you.
