I'm basically looking for everything. Programmers, artists, the works.

My goal is to make games that will compete in the secular market, for non-christian players. But put forth Christian messages and values. I'm particularly interested in RPG style games both medieval/fantasy and Sci-Fi.

My primary concept involves an in-depth simulation of spiritual warfare with RTS elements. Though there are a great many ideas I'm playing with.

To be honest I don't have a budget right now so this is all volunteer work. However there's no doubt in my mind this is what God wants me to do. So it's going to happen one way or another.

If God puts it on your heart that you might want to be involved in any way, I'd like to hear from you.

Do you have a working design document yet? How large is the scope for this project? Have you ever developed a game before? I would really love to get involved with a Christian game development team, but just about every one I've ever seen that started with a big project never goes anywhere. Any more specifics you can provide about what you're trying to do would be cool.

To be perfectly honest, as it stands right now I'm just a guy with a vision. A very big vision, but one I firmly believe is from God and so I am going to pursue it. Where it leads or how far it goes. You'll simply have to ask yourself what is God's will?

The design doc has been started but is in infancy. I'll need help to flesh it out. The ultimate goal is just to make great games that will compete in the secular market and challenge non-christians and christians alike to think about God. To provide another medium for God to speak to gamers.

Yes it's big. Yes the world will say things like 'it's too much', 'it'll never happen', 'you'll never get the money' or whatever else. Well so what? If God wants this to happen then it will move forward so long as we're willing to do it.

The original concept I have in mind is a RTS\Life Simulation. On the one hand you have the humans going through their lives. Some christian, some not. All AI controlled. Christians are trying to do God's will but come into problems etc. On the other have angels waging war in the spiritual realms. This is where the RTS comes in. Playing say, the commander of the heavenly angels in the area it's your job to direct the battles, make assignments etc. The outcome of which influences what happens to the people. Success will aid Christians trying to do God's will and in turn they'll pray more and the heavenly angels gain strength etc.

Going with this concept it's important to be as accurate as possible. Let God guide it as we do not want to misrepresent anything. Of course this is also true of any game we could make.

Prayer and study will both be high priorities.

If you're unsure. Pray about it. What does God want you to work on. For me, I've no doubts this is it. So until He tells me otherwise, here I am.

when I say this, I'm not picking on you, and it's not necessarily intended just for you, but everybody who posts their game ideas and requests for a team. or any request.
(so basically, I'll be saying stuff which you already did. besides, what you posted is one of the better requests.)

When requesting for a services, you need to be specific. Let the people know exactly what you want. If you need help with some programming problem, state the problem exactly and tell us what you did to try to solve it. if you don't you just appear lazy.
For a team, not too many people will join unless they know what their getting into. a website, a design document, something to really lay things out. This is really necessary over the internet, because it'll be harder to convey your ideas than in person. In person, you can really have these talks where you get to understand one another, but over the web, it's harder. So you'll really have to show what you want.
also, the more organized you are, the more attention you'll get.
I know you can't lay out everything in a single post, and sometimes all you need is to get their attention. But having something really laid out is good. It doesn't need to be set in stone, but something for people to grasp what you want. Confusion is highly inefficient and will kill projects like nothing.
You idea sounds great, and personally, I've been dreaming up something like that too. It's not as developed as yours, due to other ideas floating in my head, lack of time, etc. personally, tho, I'm going to layout the design before I ask for a team. (even tho I haven't done that for *cough* my game...)
anyhow.
here I am talking like some pro...
but, planning is really necessary. it's been said "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail." yes, it's most incredibly cheesy. but, if anyone feels God wants them to make this game, take the time to plan it out. Too many games have died, and it's sad because many of them looked cool, like yours, Owen, looks cool.

Indeed. Again to be perfectly honest I've had ideas for games swimming in my head for years. I've a company name, domain etc but no formal training and not knowing the right people tends to throw a wrench in the cogs when trying to get into the industry.

It wasn't until less than 24 hours ago that God really put it into my head that I needed to just dive into the Christian gaming community and start making things happen.

Yes right now I'm in the attention getting phase. I'll be the first to say, I need help here. A LOT of help. Starting with fleshing out the docs, getting the website up and really clearing things up so we can get started.

If you don't feel God wants you on this particular project, we can always use the prayer.

Good luck to you, and I will certainly pray about the project when I think about it. I too believe that God has destined me to develop Christian games, but I have seen way too many people that feel the same way crash and burn. Your vision might be the ultimate goal God has for you, but there's a reason people believe first and minister later. You need to start small and work your way up to the big things. I would definitely like to be kept posted on the progress your team makes as it comes together, so if you eventually decide to do a newsletter or anything, please keep this board appraised. Thanks and God bless.

what I might suggest is developing your ideas in the background. write up docs for them, concept sketches, etc, and help work on someone else's project. gaining experience, meeting people, etc.
well, that's personally what I'm doing. I'm working with D-SPL and Brandon on "The Last Disciple." not much, just concept art, but still.
it's been said that your first 10 games suck. Getting experience is vital. Start small, work up. start by making small games or working with other people more experienced.

my advice. don't need to follow it, obviously.

I'm just here to lay it out on the table, let God do His thing and let the chips fall where they may. If God wants me to do something else He'll let me know soon enough.

sadly, a lot of christians do that. and trusting in God is important. But also God made a natural way of things, and just letting things fall many times lead to ruin.

Letting things just fall I wouldn't even be here. I'd be twiddling my thumbs somewhere waiting for something to happen.
