Greetings all!

I am starting up a UO free shard that is not specifically Christian, but offers a storyline that parallels Christianity(think the "Chronicles of Narnia" series or LOTR). The goal of the shard is to offer a place where children and adults alike can play a RPG that does not delve into the dark realms of demons, sorcery, witchcraft, etc that many other RPGS are full of. For those of you that are not familiar with UO, basically it is a massive multiplayer online role playing game(MMORPG) where you have quests, and have to slay the monsters that terrorize local towns, or choose to be a crafter of fine goods that people want to buy. Players on this shard play out a particular character and can pursue lives as fishermen, carpenters, cooks, or be the typical warrior. (See http://www.uo.com Ultima Online's Main website for more details on the game.

The shard is up and so is the website:

The good news is that since this game server is already functioning fine(we run the http://www.polserver.com pol world server) we don't need to code from scratch. What I need help with is figuring out how to interpret the escript files in order to modify the game and drop out the aspects of the game that are of the occult nature. Take magery, for example...it needs to be reworked to be a prayer skill that functions quite differently than the default system does.

Here is our current needs:
-A coder or two
-Several people to be Game Masters(GMs) and police the shard for proper conduct.
-People to help develop the game storyline--develop races, histories, etc.
-And of course, people to play the game!

If you are interested, please feel free to email me at prophecy(at)jlym.com or visit the website and jump on our irc chat room:

Thanks!

That's pretty interesting! I think we need to see more Christian themed mods for various games. Wish I could help out but I don't own UO, best of luck to you!

Hey guys, I would LOVE your help....so far I have 3 other people helping me, but some of them are quite busy. I am in the process of customizing it now. As for not having UO. There is a free download of the UO AoS demo at:

http://www.gigex.com/pc/title/gameinfo/?id=2008&source=00001

And the demo is all you need to play on prophecy :-)

looks likea cool projeect. and i am fully convinced, making? Mods is a really good way for christians to start making christian games with a limited budget, limited team etc, and limited advertising potential, as just because its a mod gives you a full community of potential players

i don't know much about UO, but i am aware its a massive multiplayer, so how does this shard work? do you have run your own UO server?

Yeah, there are several freeware open source UO server emulators out there. I am running POL (polserver.com). So I set up an old computer as a server, and now I am configuring it, writing up plot and quest ideas and customizing it best I can.

You still need a copy of UO to play, or at least the demo of UO, which I linked to earlier. After you install the demo, there are a few files that you download from Prophecy's website and replace in the UO install folder, which allows you to connect to my server.

I have a couple other people on board as staff, but still need a lot of help...I would love some help from people who are Christians to help out with writing and policing the shard, but, of course, you don't have to be Christian to play or even help. The shard is just about ready to open up to players as well, so if anyone is interested please email, ICQ(140515968) me or jump in our prophecy chat room at http://prophecy.jlym.com and we can talk about it further.
