Anyone intersted in helping CCGR become a Christian equivelant of File Planet. No waiting though! We will always host Christian demos, let us know if you have one for us to host!

yeah, fileplanet is worthless to me.
I'm sure it's great if you pay... but you gotta wait and when it finally does start to download it goes at like 300 *bytes* per sec
when you are trying to dl a 100 mb game... forget it.

I guess that is my cue!

First off, great idea Cheryl. Do people really pay fileplanet $60 a year?!?!

Secondly, we already have this for Christian-specific games, see:
http://ChristianGamesNow.com or http://CGNow.com
<You can blame me for the web site, I didn't muscle my volunteers hard enough - right nfektious? WINKS and NUDGES.>

Were you going to list non-Christian games? We are going to add some family-friendly ones, especially those built by Christians from the community.

Maybe we can join forces?

Also, any consideration to some of the other things that FilePlanet is offering to "subscribers"? Here is what they say (and my comments in paranthesis if we can do similar):

Start downloads immediately (Sure)

Fastest, most reliable service (Probably fast enough for most people, would be up to our host - I use:
http://graceworks.ehostingbiz.com/webcenter )

Subscriber-only betas (Why not? We know most of the Christian Game Developers - work a deal to get early testers going.)

Subscriber-only demos and movies (Again, why not? Mack was able to send me a movie he made from EW - just do so earlier in the process. Oh, Cheyenne from VirtueGames.com has a "Making of Derek" - he might be willing to share that).

Ad-free browsing (Well, sure although having an advert or two that is pertinent may help us with costs).

GameSpy Network Subscription (Nope, but can we offer anything similar? See about getting a month on a game by Simutronics through Eric?).

GameSpy Arcade Subscription (Nope, anything comparable?)

Roger Wilco Subscription (Nope - but could hunt for something comparable)

GameSpy 3D Subscription (Nope - Maybe one day if the Lord blesses a vision someone has for some Christian Game Magazines)

Magazine subscription
Choose from Computer Gaming World, Electronic Gaming Monthly, or Play Magazine.
(Sure, we can point people to here as they have great prices BUT they also carry other "junk":
http://magazinevalues.com/home.cfm?mvaffid=1838 )

Founders' Club Newsletter (Surely someone can slap together some text to Email out? :-) ).

I think we could offer most of those for free. And could consider a "subscription" (real reasonable) to cover any extra benefits - like an Email account with the fileshare domain name, etc.

What do you think? Or, what did you have in mind?

God be with us all,
Tim

Great ideas. Right now I use telaweb.com and I was eying their last package..the one with unlimited space. Right now CCGR has 400MB with unlimited access and OC3 speed! By hosting mostly non-Christian (& Christian)CCGR has been listed as a mirror on bluesnews.com so there's plenty of speed to go around. The only hting holding back now is space. I"ve used some other domains but Eternal War on my ProGress host exceeded the bandwidth and downed i for a day. CCGR needs expansion to grow..but I can't afford it.

orginally planned on having premium member seervice and planned to e-mail them the minute the demos were up and make the general public wait a day or two before they "see it"

Was planning on hosting betas, Chrtistian & secular games (within reason)
If the member ship exceeded the required amount I was thinking of give aways etc.

Looking at the poll Many people are content with me paying for everything. (go figure)

So the only way for this to move on would be a sudden change of heart of find a sponsor who would get a half page ad that the vitiors must click through to get to the huge download section. The ad would be $24.95 a month and would get seen more and more as CCGR would be able to host more. This section rought to you by: X etc

I supposedly get unlimited bandwidth from ehostingbiz but I'm sure they would take notice once it exceeded some threshold. And have exceeded my minimum allowed storage by 3 and they haven't said anything (even asked them and they said they don't care about that so much).

Good luck finding advertisers! I have basically given up hunting for sponsors for the conference. For your web page, the best option is an affiliate program (I'd recommend ChristianBook.com and InspiredIdea.com) and hope to recoup some of your costs that way. And it is definitely a ministry - no way will you get paid for your time (as I'm sure you've already discovered).

Another way for folks to subscribe, may be to sign up for some services (there is a survey site that pays well). But this may turn people off.

We could pool our resources for Christian demos - set up mirror links type of thing if you'd like. It doesn't help when Mack's demo is soooo HUGE (30 Meg?)!! Thanks Mack!

PS to Cheryl - you have a typo in your signature.

Pool resources? That would be cool. Thanks for the typo heads up. I hear you on the ministry..it's definitely a service that gets rewarded by responses not cash. Regarding game developers I know Nvidia and Alienware sponsor events..I think you got Nvidia already but look into Alienware. Finding a good and dedicated sponsor will be tough but if it doesn't happen it's not God's will for the site. He's taken it this far I'll wait on him to guide me further. I never imagined retiring off of it.

Regarding Macks demo it wasn't necessarily the size..kontiki a game sharing service uses my server...lovely

Cheryl,

No response from Nvidia this year. I even resubmitted the info.

I'll check into Alienware.

There is one place that could sponsor us - ProGress Systems Inc! Email me at Tim@CGDC.org if you are interested (don't worry, it won't cost an arm nor leg).

We can do mirroring right away as I'll always have Christian Related game demos either hosted or linked. Plus there are a few Christians in the group that host, but their normal pricing is too high. Maybe they could donate space/bandwidth?

For anyone interested in subscribing here is the info page on it. I will not collect money until we have enough people interested. This can be a great resource for developers as well as gamers.
