Hello there guys. Been a long time scence I have posted anything. However I was wandering if anyone here knew of a good and free file converter. I tryed to save a model in TrueSpace5 as an .x file. When I did, it mest up the skin that was on it and also did not save the rig with it. This makes for a big prob with making games with models from TS.

You know it would figure. I have gotton modeling, skinning, and rigging down packed and now I can't save the models in a good file! hint hint im a little angry about it

Anyways I looked all over the place and couldnt find anything good for converting. I did find things that sounded good but they all cost $100 or more. Suggestions anyone?

I'm having the same problems with TrueSpace 3 . Their proprietary format is hard to convert to/from apparently. It's a nice program, I've yet to find a convertor that will do the conversion accurately.

If anybody can find something good for conversion, we'd both be interested.

So this is a prob that has been going on for some time. Well till something is found or made to fix the prob I still need to build my library. Maybe my team mate will figure something out (or make a converter). Then again Im such a head ake already asking qustions left and right

I better get to work on my next model.

Any particular reason why you're using TrueSpace?

Angel, the only two convertors I can suggest you try are Crossroads (which is free) and 3d Explorer (or maybe it's called 3d Exploration) but 3d Explorer does cost, I can't remember off hand how much. Problem is that I doubt that even if crossroads does support .cob, I doubt it handles animation/bones. 3d Explorer probably does, but I've never tested that functionality.

Crossroads dosnt work with direct .x correctly. It still has bugs

Why TS? Well I am conciderd mentaly ill and phsicly ill. Getting on dissability takes some time with the probs I have. So you can immagan how tuff it is to save cash. Anyways to make a very long story short a nice person named Krylar gave me TS5 for free He also gave me Blender but I dont have an OpenGL cpu.

So here I am with a great 3Dprog that has sucky conversion. I cant afford a fancy pance converter that coverts everything under then sun (that I dont really need).

Blah- were was I? Brian fart. Oh well, im sure I said what I needed to say. I need to get back to my little girl for now.

God bless you peeps!

http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~qs7e-kmy/urconv/URConv-e.htm

i'll keep looking for ya Angel

[still looking]
here's a shortlist for ya:

http://www.3dlinks.com/software_converters.cfm

some of those links might be busted, but if you search for the product you should be able to find them if they are still around.

All this help but none of it will work
3dlinks is a great place but ive been through it from one end to the other.
The other prog only works with binary .cob .x so its a bust too.

well my child is crying her head off so I must go.

Angel -
This tool was mentioned on a forum for Truespace 5 and exporting .x format models. Hope this does indeed help

http://pages.prodigy.net/rwcordell/download.htm

Unfortunately, the FAQ for that tool doesn't seem to exist, but if you want to read about the tool go here:

God bless,

well I tested it and it didnt work. It did save the .x file diffrently I think TS may not be abile to read .x files good eather. My team mate and I are letting it slide for the momment.

Angel, one product that might be of use to you is 3d Canvas by Amabilis (www.amabilis.com). It's specifically for modelling and animation (rendering is pretty ordinary) so it should suit your needs. It has a couple of different versions from freeware, up to Professional. The middle version has .x support and costs $34.95, the Pro version (which includes .cob and .x import/output) will cost $69.95. Besides .cob, what other formats can you currently output to? I have an earlier version of this software that does export to .x but can't remember offhand what import formats it supports (.cob is very doubtful), can you export to .3ds?

can truespace save to 3ds? 3dsmax 3ds i mean?
if so there are plenty of 3ds->whatever including .x tools out there..
an extra step, but hey - it just might get ya there..

though every converter never does 100% job, the reason different programs have different features, and different formats... there are some things that truespace can do that .X just can't do and visa versa..
