this pal of mine at work downloaded MARSPORT for me from

http://free-game-downloads.freewishes.com/abandonware/spectrum/games_m_r/marsport.html

(26Kb download of MARSPORT)

Download (26kB)
Map
Manual
Manual & Walkthrough

he bunged all the above onto a CD for me, but if I double click on any file it just says "Open......with what ?"

then a drop down menu asks me to select, starting with adobe

when I chose adobe; it immediately changed all the files to adobe logos and an error message came up saying "File does not begin %PDF"

now whenever I double click any of these files, the same error message immediately displays, I just want to play the game that's all, but I'm getting nowhere

could somebody please download the game (please) see it going and then tell me simply how to do the same, I would be so grateful and I know this sounds crazy, but I'm not on the internet to download it myself, hence my m8 putting it on a CD for me

I can "see" internet on my tv via cabletv and write posts like this from cabletv keyboard, but I cannot download anything

can anybody advise me to get this game going please

ARGH !!!! I really dislike this forum software.

I'll try again.

That dialog means that you didn't have a program to open that file on your PC, so you were given the chance to choose one. Adobe was selected because it was the first alphabetically. I cannot check what the file was without accepting an exe, which I won't do from people who advertise bride4u.com, but it's probably a zip, which means the file is compressed and needs to be decompressed. The file you need to do that is at www.winzip.com, or if you can't download it, get your friend to, and to unzip the file and burn the result to CD.

thanks christian
bride4u.com ?

wow I never saw that advert or heard of it but I think I can guess what it means

thanks for having a look at my problem though
you were on the right track about the decompression thing
I found out now that it requires an emulator but had no idea at the time
thanks again

You're welcome. Emulators are a lot of fun. I can play Amiga and C64 games on my PC as well as old arcade machines.

I remember when I made this mistake in 3.whatever and killed my first computer.
Just a quick note you will have to reassociate your files with the correct program also. Since you have already have choosen a program the system will continue to use that program until you set the files back to correct. This can be easy but it depends on what OS you are running and certainly is allot easier to do now then it was back in the day.
