Howdy,

I want to finish a game I have had in the works for a couple of years. But I am completely horrible at modeling. I am trying to find somebody who would be willing to do the models for me. They would have to be in MD2 format.

All I can offer is your name in the credits. This game is being made strictly for my youngest daughter. I will not even be releasing it as freeware. I will send you a copy of the game when it is finished, and I will try and send a few copies to people here at CCN. Other than that, it will not be distributed. It will be a 3D first person Children's game. No violence at all.

I plan to work on this strictly in my spare time.

Regards,

Brice

I'm not a modeler, so I won't even attempt to try my hand at it. However, there's a site with tons of MD2 models called Polycount. You may have already heard of it. There's a bunch of MD2 models from various modelers there. The only issue might be that they may not fit well into a children's game (you know how those crazy Quake people are ), but there are some really nice ones there still. Hope this helps!

Yeppers, Polycount is a good resource. But like you said, not too much that fits into a children's game. However, if you see something there that you like, I encourage people to contact the author of the model. It has been my experience they will usually let you use the model in your game. I got permission to use a scarecrow model from there in my game.

As I stated I am doing this for my youngest daughter. I am more than willing to sign over all rights/ownership to this game to whoever helps with the modeling so you can market it in any way that you wish and try to make some $$ off of it.

I can do some modeling, but the animation part of it is the hard part. What type of models are you seeking? It might be suitable for a few people with 3D skill to get together and help you on this to provide you with the final product. Personally, I have little time as it is, but with some help I think it could be done.

Actually all models are static. What I need ranges from a carrot, milking stool, bucket, to a few animals, a few trees (made of primitives, ala MArio 64 style) and a couple of funny looking, but very simple, critters I have drawn. Unfortunately with my modeling talent, I would stand a better chance of solving world hunger and bringing about world peace than creating a usable model Everything would need to be in MD2 format with BMP skins.

If anybody is willing to help, I can provide a detailed list and scan the couple of drawings I did. This should be really simple stuff for anybody good at modeling.

Howdy,
I may be your man, depending on your deadline. I know 3d but have not done any in the file format you descrive. We would just have to figure out the logistics. If you have the patience to guide me, I can come up with cool 3d geometry for you.
I am not sure where to start, I use Lightwave.
Send me an email.

Feo,
Chances are you'll need to export your .lwo as .3ds and be sure your normals are correct. If you need any plugins check out www.flay.com for a lwo-to-3ds.
www.polycount.com should have a MD2 tool for you. Look in the Quake2 tools and resources section. If you can't find anything let me know. Brice might have the utilities also(?).

Matt

PS - welcome to CCN

Wowzers, thanks FEO!! Between you and Nfektious (if he can help) I should be set. I have no deadline. When its done, its done

I an not a modeler, so I cannot tell you the best way to get from LWO to MD2. The extent of my capabilities is converting animated 3DS/X to animated MD2 and that took me forever to figure out

My brain is pretty fried tonight, so I will give you an email tomorrow morning

BTW, welcome to the board!!

I'm tied up at the moment. But I could lend some help with a couple of models in the near future.

Hey Nfektious did you notice on the LWOtoMD3 page under docs? I'd forgotten all about it... http://members.bellatlantic.net/~mbristol/utils/lwotomd3.html

Thanks for those links Nfektious. They are very interesting, I could spend weeks on those two sites.
Lostreflections, I didn't hear from you. Send me the details or post them here if you prefer. I check my email more often than I surf the web, that is why I was telling you to email them to me.
