I'm working on a 3D Larry Boy game, and I need some more ideas for challenges that the player has to get through to win. I already figure you'll have to dodge moving cars and catch bandits, and you'll get deducted "style points" when you fall off buildings or catch an innocent bystander with your super-suction ears , maybe moving boxes to get over barriers... The project is fairly well along, but I don't know what will happen to it, I'd at least like to release it freely (provided I get Big Idea's approval), so money is not involved at the moment, though I would give anyone credit for good ideas that make it into the game (I need more credits for it anyway . I'll be putting up screenshots of the game soon at http://members.v3space.com/sillypickle/, so check that out this afternoon. |

rofl. Hurry up and finish - my 5-year old wants to play! Choose a veggie you don't like and make that 'the boss' (a giant broccoli, perhaps?). His minions could be rotting vegetables who throw gourds at you while you try to save Bumblyburg. Good luck! ------------------ |

Christian kids need some cool Christian games! God bless you with your development! (also, your website is having a 404 error, you can join the Christian Game Alliance for free if you like, just click the link on my sig below regarding it ) ------------------ |

I wouldnt totaly jump for joy. I went by there site once thinking about giveing them an idea or somthing. They have a very strict set of rules that they say they dont want any of your ideas or for you to even bother sending any ideas practicly. Still all the best to your project. Hope you let us know how it goes. ------------------ |

Angel, good point, but I've seen Big Idea's rules, but I believe those relate to the videos, a whole different set probably governs software "merchandise". I must admit I'm only a student (BSCS, 6th semester), so I haven't had legal dealings like this before. Of course, if I had support from people who want this game, I could make a stronger case to Big Idea. I would hope Big Idea would see just how much of a gap there is in the computer game market, kids should have games like this that fit the same criteria as the videos. Mack, I have thought of changing hosts, how much space are you allocated on the host you mentioned? The link was bad though, so try it without the comma, http://members.v3space.com/sillypickle/ As far as gameplay, the movement is strictly squarish, you move left one square forward one square, etc... (maybe hard to visualize, but not as constricting as it sounds, the suit is a bit constricting though, as most of you probably know |

So the movement looks a little like "frogger", if you ever played it. About the legal junk, I'm not sure Big Idea would object, i mean, your not advising there problems. Oh and, plunkg, throwing gourds may not be a good idea. I think you should have one level with the Larry-mobile, though. |

Unfortunately, I have not played Frogger, but I think that the movement is much the same. I had thought of having the Larry-mobile, and it will probably make its way into the game. Mack, I could probably live with 10 megs, could I use ftp to transfer the files? |

Hey, Crptc you can make great 3D images with Maya's alias wavfront. One major drawback is that it'll set you back 7,500 DOLLARS!! Although right now you can download it for free to try it out and they didn't remove any of the features! You can download it at www.aliaswavefront.com! If you really like it! I saw a TV commercial from Maya today and they said that they lowered the price to 1,999! That is if you REALLY want it ! I hope this helps! It probably won't though will it? |

Lucas, thanks for the tip. I actually have a pretty good modeler/animator called Hash Animation Master (and cheap at $300). It uses patch based modeling and supports all kinds of effects and kinematics for bones, so I'm pretty well set. I just got my basic coding done for animating the bones in the program, now my main hurdle is physics (I'm not hoping for too much in this department). Better yet, I've got an idea for the main plot of the game. The cool thing about the way I'm doing the models is that I convert them into polygons upon loading them, so they take up a LOT less space and you can change the detail level in-game. BTW, I've heard that Big Idea is scheduled to release several computer games this fall, coinciding with the theater release of Jonah. None of them are with Larry-Boy though... |
